Hi everyone,
I have noticed for a while now that my rear n/s brake is not working correctly as looking threw the alloy wheel the disc has a good amount off rust on it,pad not pushing againest disc not the usual shiny disc you would expect after being about town.Have had the wheel off and inspected the other side off disc and it has no rust looks normal, have taken off caliper cleened it off rust and brake dust and carrier as well put everthing back on and still the same issue rust has not shifted from the side you can see threw wheel. Is the caliper needing stripped and the piston cleened to get it up and running again is there any do or don'ts to stripping the rear caliper i have done plenty off front caliper strips but not rear caliper with intigrated hand brake conection or am i just missing something simple,,,,,,,,,thanks for any help on this problem

Do you have a caliper wind-back took? If so, it's easy to just wind the piston in and *carefully* use the brake pedal to stroke it out again a few times. Using the tool you get a very good feel for any parts of the piston's stroke where it's sticking.

I'm getting increasingly lazy with age however (or perhaps lack of time to fart about with old cars) so a new/replacement caliper would sort it far quicker!

A man after my own heart after what i have been through with cars the past few years.... (y)

Yeah fair comment! It used to be that I had to do it because financially I had no choice. That's changed so I make a call on what I think my time is worth now :)

I had exactly this problem recently, (though not on a Cougar), and it was definitely the slide pins that were the problem in that case. The piston would push the pad onto the inboard side of the disk, but the outer pad did not move because of corrosion.
