Preferably on standard shocks (for now) just so I can see if I'm gonna tractor or not (and what to ask for Christmas :D)

18's with 225 40 18 tyres,

Lowered 35 mm

Its not a case of it being 'incorrect' as such.

For the correct rolling radius you need 40's but you will get away with 35's or even 45's.

Off-set for a Cougar is et46, so make sure the offset isn't something like 24 or you may have issues.

PCD is 4 x 108 just incase you didn't know
 
As I said, the person I'm potentially buying them off will have them correct...seeing as they're coming off a Cougar ;)

Offset doesn't have to be bang on ET46, there is a range of values that will work.
Depends on your wheel width but as long as it doesn't foul your suspension or protrude the bodywork you should be ok. My wheels are ET42.
