Reversing lights and MOT

Hi,

MOT is due soon, but the reversing lights do not work that well. You have to hold the gear stick in reverse to make them come on.
Firstly is this an MOT fail?

My thoughts of a fix would be the reversing light switch. But where the hell is it? I have removed the air filter box but it is nowhere to be seen.

Thanks
Matt

The reversing lamps are not part of the MOT so you're ok there. The switch is indeed on the gearbox but I can't remember where as I haven't clapped eyes on one in many years now. Someone more recently intimate with it will help though...

It is indeed on top of the gearbox, remove the airbox and shine a torch down onto the gearbox - i had the same problem but a good dose of WD40 soon sorted it

ok, I swear this doesn't exist lol.

Can someone highlight its location on this picture

Still not sorted mine, never seem to have the time really need to have a delve.

hi spjmorris, well i checked the pics, as long as our battery trays come off the same way ect, it should be doable, but what a place to put the switch now i see why most dont bother, but im bothering as i find them very useful for backing up at nite through my gates at home i have to hold the gear stick firmly to keep them lite up so im absolutely sure the switch is worn, but really its not like you use it as much as changing gear while driving, i am quite friendly with an auto electrics guy who said, if they bothered to gold plate the contacts on all this stuff even sensors we wouldnt get half the problems we come across most of the time.
