Hi all,

as some of you may know im due to pick up an ex members cougar tomorrow, (was bridge's, then cougars), I have checked dvla for all mot's and nothing seems wrong, however on the latest MOT it has the following advisories:

nearside and offside anti roll bar gaters are deteriorating but still preventing dirt ingress.
front to rear brake pipe slightly corroding
play in steering rack inner joint
OSR brake slightly binding.

Would this put anyone off? Nothing major is there?

The only problem there is the steering rack as far as I can see.
N/S and O/S ARB gaiters - new set of drop linls around 20 quid, easy to replace.
Brake pipes - rub down and coat with grease or hammerite them.
OSR Brake probably just needs adjusting.

It's a very common rack so have a look on ebay for Mk2 Mondeo racks. The rest is just peanuts to sort out. If that's all that's wrong with it, it's a good one.

osr brake could be cable, rear brakes are self adjusting, but it could be just a sticky pad in caliper or handbrake "lever/linkage" (correct name escapes me at mo OFS)at top of caliper might need freeing, worse case exchange caliper and/or cable but it's normally a simple fix

Cougar dials, Correct mileQuic questionage?

quick question? do the dials on the cougar hold to mileage info or is it stored in the car? eg the car im going to look at has a set of dias with a cougars head on and are reading 90k, is that accurate or has it done 90k since they were installed? and the maybe the last set did 100k so in total 190k. or do they set to whats recorded in the car?

it's stored in the circuit boards on the back of the dials, If you ever swap your dials you'll need to swap the circuit board over to retain the correct mileage.

a quick scan of the service log/old MOTs will verify the mileage.

The fascias are pretty simple to swap. If it has Cougarhead ones, then it's just the thin plastic sheet with the numbers printed on which has been swapped. It doesn't mean the actual binnacle itself has been changed.

Oh well!

Well i drove the 70 miles today to pick up cougar, met the bloke, he loved my car, his was nice but not as nice as he made out. He was definitely getting the better deal! I agreed to the swap as i want a cougar REALLY BAD and just as were about to swap logbooks he tells me his wife has to authorise it?? She comes out and tells me she hates MG's and doesnt want to swap! Stupid woman knew all week i was coming down in a MG to swap so why let me drive all that way! I moaned a bit and she gave me £20 for petrol lol.

So im back to square one! trying to swap my car for a cougar or sell private and buy one. Arrrgh was so excited to pick her up today!!

Mate it happens, I spent thirty quid and over two hours (each way) on a train to Kent to look at a Cougar that I walked away from.

Plenty more out there to choose from.
