Side Lights

They're marker lamps, they're not designed to emit any sort of penetrating beam pattern. They don't have a functional lens.

What are you trying to accomplish?

Just trying to see them, I'll see if I get a photo later when it starts to get dark to show what I mean.
 
The normal incandescent bulbs are only 5W, so they only dissipate 9% of the power of your driving lamps - and may not have a reflector.

However if the light output from the lamp is truly dismal it could be either a wiring fault, or one of the well documented Chinese LED replacements with a pitiful luminescence rating.

Did you have conventional bulbs in before?
 
I found the problem with ordinary LED bulbs is that all the light tends to come directly out the front of them. Since the bulb holder is at an angle in the cluster, they're actually worse than incandescents.

If I was going to try that experiment again, (fortunately I don't have to...) I would consider finding some of those modern panel LEDs in the right fitment. Or even replacing the holder completely to suit an available bulb of that type.
 
They are completely useless for illumination purposes and in my experience the leds you can get don't last more than a few days...

You'll have bulbs on your shopping list then, because that's what Mako's got fitted to her nose.

They passed an MOT, but they're not even effective as marker lights IMHO.
 
This is the side lights at dusk and to be honest they don't look as bad as I first thought, excuse the crappy phone pic.
