Can anyone recommend a good spark plug for my V6?

Also, how on earth do you get the three plugs in the rear bank out?

After much swearing, I've finally managed to get the front three out (having just bought the car with 70K miles on the clock), and it's clear that they need changing. So I'm assuming the rear three will as well.

Ford will only sell them in boxes of ten. Halfords only had Champion plugs in sets of four!

Thanks for any help you can give.

Motor craft all the way mate ... Genuine ford

You need to remove the coil pack really to help and then you need an extension to avoid wrapping your knuckles

10" extension with just the right length plug tool and you don't need to remove a thing, done mine twice now and there's no need to remove anything at all.

and as above - Motorcraft.

Where are you Mr Hamster?

Steve, I like you. Always have. You're a bloke's bloke and great to be around. But if you're going to tell me that you can replace all 6 plugs without removing (at least) the IMRC cover, IMRC and UIM - and that you've actually done it without swearing - I'm going to hire a creepy clown to follow you everywhere you go and honk a sad-sounding horn until the heat-death of the universe.

Ok you got me guv - it's a fair cop

I forgot the three 7mm bolts for the IMRC cover, and I forgot about the IMRC coz mine aint there anymore!
so three more 10mm bolts :)

but that is all, you absolutely do not need to pull the UIM

Aah I feel all fuzzy and warm inside now :D

me changing my rear plugs last November with everything clearly still attached, it's tight, but very doable ;)

I always remove the IMRC cover but I can see how it could be done without removing it (y)

"First remove the sump..."

Still seems *very* tight to me. Maybe it depends on the state of the engine mounts and the motor's resting position?

That was for comedy purposes. Man-hug though. (You know - like I've got some stoic image to keep up, right? )

Y...yeah. Sod that.

Having finally got around to doing mine today, I can confirm a couple of things;

1) Fit the Motorcraft ones. Less than a fiver each on eBay. It's very clear now to me that the NGKs are just...wrong.

2) Not all Cougars are created equal; I had more room to access the back bank than Steve did, maybe an extra 1/4 inch, so definitely didn't need to remove my UIM. And I'm certain that my engine mounts are sound, so it's not just play.

3) Put copper slip on the threads. Just a dab of it. Because the noise that my old ones made when they came out (and the force they needed to remove them) was unreal.

I use copper slip myself, but strictly speaking it should be graphite grease for spark plugs. Copper is better than nowt though - just don't tighten them too much which is easy to over do with copper grease :)
