I Have now found out what these cars are, they are English (built in the Midlands) by a company called ZOLFE called the GTC4

They run on either the 2.0L Duratec 4 cylinder engine (as found in the Focus and the new Mx-5) tuned to 185 bhp (5 speed box with open diff) (for £33,950) or the minimalistic "Sprintz" version* (for £36,945) running a 2.3L Duratec (an extra £2995) and 280bhp @ 7500rpm, 200lb/ft Torque @ 6000rpm (6 speed box with LSD £1995)

*A claimed top speed of 161 mph and 0 to 60 time of 3.8 seconds. Weight is below 750 kg so your looking at a power to weight ratio of about 400 bhp/ton
