My personal view is that HIDs simply aren't needed to be retrofitted, a trip to Specsavers is what's needed if you are struggling in the dark, not more powerful bulbs.

Are you for real? (n)

You are here to get the odd bite....well done, you have got another one.

My personal view is you should jog on

Yesterday, I collected the in-laws after their car was written off, I had a 530 mile round trip,(39-42mpg) with two road closures and having to run down single track lanes, I did notice one thing the low beam on my C1 are pretty much useless.
The lights flickering didn't help (not done the upgrade yet), but I might as well been driving on side light for what light they gave out, I had HID's on my last BMW and they were great.
Looks like bigger wattage bulbs are the answer.

I am not biting Si......... Just saying that the HID's I have fitted to my car are miles better than stock bulbs and do make a massive difference. I can speak from experence due to running both in my car over the years. I am running 6000K bulbs as well, so not OTT.
For me it is a total no brainer and much safer driving at night with them in but each to there own.

I'm entirely "for real", however as I pointed out I don't particularly want a debate about it. I'll reiterate again I've tried to clarify the law to the best of my knowledge.

You are of course, entirely welcome to express you view! That post did sound a bit ****** when re-reading it, and I apologise but it's something to bear in mind, if a driver is struggling to see for driving in the dark then it could be a sign of a vision problem. From my experience I know that I spent years bemoaning vehicle lamps to find it was actually the fact that I needed glasses!

I don't do an awful lot of nightdriving in my Cougar, but I've no complaints with the standard lamps; but as with all things people will upgrade as they see fit.

Not to teach anybody to suck eggs, but surely a) You'd only be using dipped beam momentarily for passing traffic? and b) Are those with severe issues levelling their lamps correctly?

Really not wanting to cause any upset here, but just a few suggestions?!

Regards,
Andy

how about the basic facts. cougar lights, particularly c1 are crap, and HID's make it much safer for the driver and other members of the public too.

To say someone who needs HID's should actually consider a trip to specsavers instead is a ridiculous statement to make.

I think the word "needs" may actually point to an issue. If you "need" HIDS to be able to drive your car at night, then yes, I think a visit to an optician may be one avenue to explore.

HIDs can often when used with incorrect lamps (and as I've mentioned, I've not seen the HID light output on a Cougar lamp) can also be irritating to other road users and dazzle oncoming traffic? Do you not agree?

The "fact" of the lamp output being poor is conjecture, not fact if you really want to continue a semantic argument, I don't particularly?!

Surely it would be safer for all concerned to know that drivers' vision is also reasonably sound? Do you see my point or am I explaining this poorly?

Essentially, I don't want a debate about this, people are born of freewill to do as they wish.... I was just trying to make the point (albeit badly) that if a driver needs the extra light output afforded by HIDS simply to drive... then they may have an issue?

Also if the light quality from the dipped beams is poor then surely you'd be using these in street lit areas or when there is passing traffic anyway?

Andy

i have decided to go to specsavers first, i found that driving last night was difficult. I didn't have my lights on, but that's by the by.

Why is this getting so tetchy?! Jeez! HID's aren't needed for the cougar but the lights are pretty poor, a lot can be down to aiming as the headlight has to be removed to change bulbs and I doubt anyone bothers to re aim once done, I have fitted HID's and they do help a lot. Bogey passed an MOT with them fitted without an issue tester didn't even comment on them except to say one needed slight adjustment as it was a little high which he did.

If I were to explain Jason then it would reopen the debate.
