Is it just me or is this a contradiction? The crankshaft bolt holds the crankshaft pulley to the crankshaft, not the alternater pulley.
You are correct. I'm not a mechanic by trade and was just guessing the name of it.

I managed to complete the job, with a few issues here and there. I bought a 2nd engine, which I used to replace the pistons and head. I replaced the bearings etc with new, but forgot to replace the piston rings like an idiot, but It runs fine, so I'm not fussed.
I did not need to buy any specialist tools for this job, the only specialist thing I needed was something to lever the crank shaft bolt out against, ie hold the crank shaft while I turn the bolt, which I had a chunk of metal with holes in, loosely attached to the pulley wheel, very crude method but it worked. You'd probably think it is an even cruder bodge if you could see this device I used.
As far as the specialist tool required to align the cams up, I did not need to buy this, I used a straight bit of 5mm bar (old piece of bed frame!), which I wedged into the cam slots when they were in the correct position.
One issue that is bugging me, is that the timing belt is too tight. There is a spare wheel bearing, just above the crank shaft sprocket, with this, it's very tight, without this, it's still too tight. I have left this out and the timing adjuster is still about 1cm past the mark where it needs to be, so I have just left it as is.
The car now actually runs smoother than before!
