tonight new series

Mike Brewer is a bit of a git, Edd seems a decent bloke though. One thing that bloody annoys me though is when he's replacing trim on cars they're doing up. Takes the old trim off..... doesn't clean behind it........... then puts the new trim on. Aaaaarrggghh!

Anyone watching Classic Car Restoration with Bernie and Mario?? That has had me screaming at the TV for the things they've done that are lower than amateur mistakes!!

stupid program, definitely set up for tv two days to go and car has not been painted then rolls out of the paint shop perfect in a day, overall finish of the car ws very poor (n)(n)(n)

Yeah, just like Chop Shop was but that's what makes TV. This week was good with the Mustang. I quite enjoyed that episode actually. A few things I yelled at, especially the price Mario paid for the car and the state of that engine! I cannot believe that on a TV program he tried to release a seized, and I mean proper seized block with boiling vinegar. Such an old trick and such a ***** one. Even if that crank had turned, them bores were almost as rusty as the cars box sections. Still a good turn out even if the door and hood were slightly misaligned lol.

Unfortunately all these programmes subconsciously promote the idea that maintenance on the cheap and sub-standard work is somehow ok. It wouldn't be so bad if they retricted themselves to Renaults and Audis which should be crushed as soon as they leave the factory, but it's getting increasingly difficult to find nice examples of older cars because in a lot of cases those which have needed, for example, bodywork have had "repairs" which have done damage more expensive to undo and redo properly than the original issue would have been anyway. That criticism of very poor standards and no attention to detail is directed equally at the owners and the vast majority of those "in the trade" as they like to describe themselves.

I shouldn't need to interview bodyshops and inspect several pieces of their recent work in order to establish whether a bodyshop can actually prep and paint a car without screwing it up - and the "work" displayed on a lot of these naff TV programmes just helps to set extremely low quality work as the standard to aim for.

Fast and loud on the discovery channel is quite good..... Classic American cars getting the hot rod treatment.
Not quite turning them around in a couple of weeks but not a bad program.
Classic car rescue..... Bit staged if you ask me...... Mustang full of rust..... Did anyone notice the damage around the windscreen frame at the start..... Then it was perfect..... All that welding done and under sealed in less than a week.... That's a tall order for any pro restoration company.
Wheeler dealers = mike brewer = over baring little nob..... Edd china = incompetent amateur mechanic....I will say some of his bodywork skills are good but as a mechanic , wouldn't trust him with a push bike. anything to involved and he gets someone else to do the job or fits a new unit.
My wife will tell you I do still watch it but it does annoy the hell out of me but I like to see how much they get the cars for and how much they sell them on for after and how much profit they claim to make....... Forgetting to factor in all the labour they had to put in to them :LOL:

Surely the whole point of the program is to demonstrate how you can buy a car in need of some TLC and then potentially turn a profit by selling it on, having done the work yourself rather than employing a garage, hence avoiding negating any of that potential profit with labour charges?

That being so , the average person who watches this program will have very limited mechanical skills which would then result in still having to pay for someone else's time and expertise to sort the car out.
How many unfinished projects are simply given up on due to this reason..... Bitten of more than they can chew springs to mind..... Just look on ebay to see how many end up on there, and that would only be a fraction of the total amount simply parked up and forgotten about.
Don't get me wrong in some eyes these two clowns are probably the best thing since sliced bread but a professional mechanic will watch Edd China and cringe at some of the things he says and does.
But that's just my opinion :)

Ed China isn't all he's cracked up to be, a proper mechanic swears every time he bangs his knuckles when a particularly seized part decided to wave the white flag when your knuckles are in line with the engine block.

I vote that somebody sells him a cougar and he has to change the alternator, but with the proviso that they can't edit out any of the labour, a 6 hour long episode involving a hospital visit for a skin graft and a swear box in the garage.

The part that annoys me the most is how that gobby one always claims that their example is the best in the country come selling time. No it isn't. We just saw it. It was neglected, you wiggled some things and decided you could get away with them, and what you did replace you replaced with the cheapest parts you could find.

The cars they turn out are some of the ropiest "restorations" going and the pillock who decides to buy a car from that tv show will be bitterly disappointed when he realises what he's bought.

You're not alone!! Becky bless her covered her ears during the CCR episode with the E Type and the MGB. I was cursing like you would not believe. Even pausing the programme to skip back scene by scene to pick up the faults and make sure I hadn't imagined them. One of my biggest gripes is who the **** preps a car with a bloody angle grinder??? It's hat DA's were made for!! I'm amazed that E Type moves for the amount of filler in it!' And when they filled in the roof of the MG but left the £50 sunroof in the 911?? Seriously WTF??

Ed China I hate with a passion in his on screen persona. He makes it all look so easy and simple and clean and polite!! ********!!

Quality post Kully...... Sums the programs up very well.
The problem is......As much as I dislike the people involved in still end up watching just to see what they do just so I can complain to my wife how bad a job it is they do..... She just sits there and nods accordingly here and there bless her lol.

Exactly the same in our house mate! Also at your recommendation Fast'N'Loud is now on Series Link :) first one I watched was with the Galaxies. Had me hooked!! Also caught about 20 mins of "A Car too Far". That's just insane! 2 Bear Grylls types in a jeep trying to get across the Amazon rainforest! Where there are no raids etc. the bit where they cross the river literally had me screaming with laughter!! Worth a watch just to see if you like it!

My missus says " I dont know why you watch this every week-but i do"

its like when I watch cop programmes and cringe....guess those of you with quality spanner wielding experience think that when watching this.

What winds me up, is that they don't (apart from once or twice) flog spare parts to enhance their profit.

Remember the six series beemer they did - and bought a donor car for the interior and the wheels? What happened to the rest of the car?

Hundreds of pounds of profit.

He also never counts his fuel costs when he travels to Bolton or whereever in this country and then gets the car picked up....you are talking hundreds of pounds there.

Rant over.

Roll on next week's bubble car episode.
