Ford had lots of Ka badges left over, and lots of chromed 'u' and 'g'. So they came up with a name to use them.

VW needed some 'L' and 'o' to use elsewhere, so they 'borrowed' them from the Lupo. Making it the Up.

Brother-in-law used to work for VAG when the Up! was released.

The salesmen had a plethora of names for them and I'll let you imagine what they were. But all of them respected the Skoda CitiGo as a better car. Why? Because only an idiot would buy an economy car from a premium brand.

In all seriousness, I found a video about how traffic cops - interceptors - struggle with the things that they see.

I won't share what he saw but it was enough for a serving officer to just nope out. And these folks are hardcore.
