In a dream world
Well then, the trials of owning a car, even one that's got low mileage and has been seeminly looked after

having had my cat the best part of 3 days i took her on a 60 mile shake down run around the countryside on Saturday, and everything was fine and dandy a little fluffyness at about 6k but i put this down to the fact it had been sat outside for 3 weeks and not driven apart from a quick test drive round the block when it arrived at the dealers i work, where she drove perfectly, then after 5 days of ownership the coil pack decided to go down on the way to work yesterday morning... :(

Oh dear !! anyhoo after spending £££ at the local motorfactors she is running sweetly again, but still a little fluffy at 6k-ish, so a new set of ngk plugs are en-route and will be fitted hopefully this weekend (y) weird thing is she was only serviced about 3 months ago !!

The next spot of pocket digging is going to have to be a cam belt, having looked through the service book (all stamped up o_O) it doesn't seem to have been done, start saving now then,

Jel

I think the zetec maxes out at around 6k so that's possibly why it feels fluffy.

Do not fit ngk, they are ***** on Ford's.

Definitely get the cambelt done

NGK work well on other cars, and some on here will say NGK are fine, but the majority i think will tell you that motorcraft are much more cougar friendly

If the cam belt hasn't been changed I wouldn't be going anywhere near 6000rpm personally

Umm!! i think your right

I just gave it a bit of a blast because it reved and felt a bit sluggish trying to clear it out a bit as the car was standing for about 3-4 weeks, but in heindsight it was probably the coil pack starting to give up, which was replaced yesterday due to the car going onto 3 cylinders, anyhoo, she seems fine now :)

6000 rpm, mine's never seen or needed that. Get that belt done quick, and check the breather, and rocker gasket, and.............

I'm assuming from his name he's got a Zetec? Peak torque is supposedly around 5000RPM on the standard black-top donk - anything higher than that is just noise unless you're in 5th and on an autobahn.

Tango saw the redline regularly :devilish: some zetec a just seem to love being revved others seem to prefer being changed up earlier, never driven two zetecs that are the same yet.

no but it runs hotter than other zetecs. it's only different because they are cosworth plugs as I had the head machined to take them

Thanks everyone for your input,

it's running so much better now its got a new coil pack, but as much as it greaves me to say it !! it'll have to wait for next payday to get the cambelt done, but at least i can get it done pretty cheaply where i work rather than the ford stealers who want £500

It's spent the last 6 odd years being driven by a lady, so i doubt it got revved very hard and does seem a bit slow to respond in the lower revs so i'm guessing it must be wondering "wtf" !! now i've got my hands on it, plans are afoot to get it running and breathing a bit better, but sadly funds being what they are (hard to come by)! time will pass before it all gets started methinks, plus i've got a £400 service to get done on me gixer before next spring.

Oh my poor, poor wallet
