Both alternative sizes are acceptable but most people go for the wider ones.

As per Rich's advice above. If your staying on standard 16 inch alloys, then best to go for either 215/50/16 (difficult to get a hold of) or 225/50/16. Failing that, you could always do what I did when I had my OEM alloys on, and that was to opt for 215/55/16. The side profile was a bit higher and just meant speedo was out slightly, but nothing to really worry about. Best of luck with whatever you decide on.
