Hey all so my cougar 1999 is registered as ULEZ due, newer cats don't. From what I can gather its because there is no published data.

"Euro 4 emissions were introduced on all new cars from January 2005 and all newly registered cars from January 2006. To pass Euro 4 standards, petrol cars had to produce CO of no more than 1.0g/km, Total Hydro Carbon (THCs) emissions of no more than 0.10g/km and NOx emissions of 0.08g/km. "

Ford do a certificate of conformity service, you are meant to send a blank email to coc@forddac.co.uk
They came back asked for copy of my v5 and photo of my vin. Got the certificate emailed next day, they are sending a hard copy out.
The emissions are listed as

Exhaust emissions:(g/km)
Test method:
Annex III - 91/441/EEC
CO: 0.400
NOx: 0.036
Particulates: -
HC:0.053
HC+NOx: 0.089

Pretty sure that means the early cats conform.. Going try submitting an exemption to ULEZ

Anyone done this before?

Get in!!! Just got an email confirming my 1999 2.5 v6 is ulez exempt!!!

Do you need to live in the ulez to apply for the exemption? Might apply myself for the occasional London trip if not

The exemption is based on the vehicles emissions not location. I work in the new proposed ulez zone and most my family and friends will also fall into the zone. So would end up costing me 12.50 a day around 6 days a week.
None of the exemption cost me a penny it was all free. So I would suggest if any cougars are liable to pay, get the certificate from ford and check emissions logged. If they fall below ulez limits get your car registered as exempt.

So steps I took

Send a blank email to coc@forddac.co.uk
They ask for photo of vin and photo of v5

They email back a pdf “sample” of the certificate of conformity

They asked if I needed a paper one, I said yes please and it was sent out free of charge same day.

Once I received the paper copy take a photo

Go to Exemptions & discounts

Select register your vehicle. Upload photo of certificate front and back, and v5.
Sit back and wait.

Ford all credit due, completed it in one working day.
TfL took about 4 days to email the approval.

The car was logged on database as no ulez due as soon as I’d receive the email

Fabulous ‘how to’ for those who need it!
I did a similar process to get my 2003 Yamaha Fazer 1000 put on the exempt list, it cost me £75 and took a week or so but well worth it, I can now drive all over London in my Cat (already exempt as it’s a 2001 car) and dodge the traffic on the Yam 😎

I’ve got to say it’s my favourite bike in the long line of bikes that I’ve owned, tho my 1st Gen Triumph Speed Triple was a close second! Smooth, fast and yes, it does like to lift its front wheel occasionally 😇

This is absolutely extraordinary. How many people are paying this fee every day without knowing tnat it's totally unnecessary?

Both Wildcat and Tiger's emissions were lower than Mako's - easily meeting Euro4 - but I never thought to look into this.

By the way, each of the EuroX standards seem to reduce the fuel efficiency of the engine. This is most clearly demonstrated by the rush to buy Euro5 Scanias when the Euro6 standard was announced. Hauliers wouldn't rush to lease a new asset before they had to, were it not for that MPG difference being significant.

I'm all for saving the planet, but I can't help feel that someone is taking the mick.

I agree Mako, My ( Our ) Cougar is 22 years old and is seen as 2.5 litre gas guzzler and not environmentally friendly.
BUT, and it’s deliberately a big BIG BUT.
How much carbon and other environment depleting products are released in the production of new cars, all that metal smelting, all that plastic production ( made from oil )
Has anyone ever considered how much excavation of our planets surface will be needed to excavate the rare earth products it takes to create Lithium Batteries.
I‘ve had new cars, I doubt very much I’ll have another.
I‘ll stick with my 22 year old petrol, I’ll stick with my 10 year old diesel, I’ll stick with another runabout for work and my motorbike for pleasure.

I won’t be contributing to carbon by buying a new vehicle.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and has their needs. I respect that.

I will contribute to carbon by running Petrol and Diesel vehicles.
Which is kinder to our planet ? I‘m unclear, I think everyone is, even those who make the rules. I respect that too.

Completely agree, been banging on about this for years cause the scrappage schemes do not save the planet ... Scrapping perfectly good cars and using virgin materials to make new ones isn't helping, it's just shifting the pollution elsewhere. It's NIMBYism on a global scale

Which is kinder to our planet ?

A 2.5 litre fitted with catalytic converters and anti smog kit that all lowers fuel consumprion and so creates more carbon.

Or the same engine with less restrictiction that gives more power for the amount of throttle and so more miles per gallon and less carbon burnt.

I genuinely don’t know, I truly don’t think anyone does.

My apologies for the thread Jack, Guilty your honour.
