South Glos.
I understand clocks from a V6 won't work properly in a Zetec, and vice versa, but are there any physical/visible differences between them to be able to tell them apart?

Chris and I looked at this yesterday, the rev counter is the way to tell them apart.

Zetec redline starts at 6.5K, V6 starts at 7K, the ones you have Andy are V6 clocks.

Thanks Steve, the ones I have for sale are V6 but their replacements don't have a redline at all.;)
Thankfully they do have a little paper OEM sticker on them confirming they are for a V6.:)

I wonder, though, if you are only changing the dials/needles and not the PCB whether the rev. counter issue between Zetec and V6 ones would be negated?

I'm sure we've done this before. The difference is in the rev counter signals which is why the pcb has to be swapped over. As mentioned the overlay is just a big sticker regardless of where the redline is.

Al, it's not clear from that thread if you tried to swap the whole binnacle incl. the pcb or just the dials.
I can see that the Zetec would receive different pulses to the pcb from the V6 but both Steve and I wondered if by changing just the dials that wouldn't cause a problem. The Zetec pcb would remain in place and just have the V6 dials put in front of it.
If the cluster was split like so:

Our theory would depend on the mechanics of the dials being common to both models with the difference coming from the ignition pulses.

Yes, all the dials are identical so are transferable from one to the other iether individually or by set.

its both rpm and speed sensor signals that are different. you can recode them but you need a laptop and my lead
