I saw that earlier while looking for a decent Zetec project. Hmm.

The Tomcats are getting there - for really good ones - but only because the people who remember, love and want them now are driving the prices up. "My dad had one of those!"

Our problem is that there really aren't many people who were children during the brief period that the Cougar existed, have fond memories of the car, who want one now, and who have the spare cash and space for one.

Hell, I only have one because my brother-in-law thought it was weird enough to appeal to me. I certainly didn't remember them from when they were being sold.

Anyway, I think they're classics, as do many people here. But they're not worth serious coupe money. Maybe we should be thankful for that - we can get really good ones, stick together, and outlive the Sierras.

Ah I was a child of the Cougar era, born in 94 and always wanted one from about 6 years old, unfortunately I was very much on my own in that respect!

They will sell for that eventually.
Good, standard cars with low mileage and history always do. I once bought a spaniel pup off a guy who had an immaculate Vauxhall Viva - surely the car equivalent of grey porridge, yet when I last saw him he still had it and his agreed insurance valuation was £8000.

Its been on for quite a while now as have a few others and most of the prices have steadily been reduced.

Admit it....bottom line is that the Cougar has a bad image as is seen by a lot of people as a bit of a joke.
Until this passes (ten - twenty years?) they're always going to be banger racers.

The Ford Cougar era passed me by; 1994->2000 I had my T-Birds, and wasn't looking at or considering what Ford UK was selling new.
2001->2009 I had to only have cheap people-carriers (benefits and 4 step-kids).
2009 I got a cheap hatchback with good history from a neighbour who was manager at a large used car dealership.
It was only when i needed to replace that, when I found T241MOB locally for similar money to what Focuses I was expecting to go for, that I realised it was spiritual successor to the T-Bird line. And available RHD.

I paid less then that for the cougar that set the 1/4 mile time record on NECO and had 2 parts cars full of spares thrown in with the deal.

A 99 manual with leather and 45000 miles in excellent condition with leather interior which covers roughly 3% of cars available is only worth 2200 USD if you can find someone to buy it for that. Trade in to a dealer its worth 1400. Considering they can be had for less then 1000, anyone asking insane amounts of money for them have to either be extremely lucky to sell them or have something super special that no other car has.
