lol i finally got the cougar about a month away from its back on the road mot lol now some ones offered me a v6 for 150 pounds only prob is they say its got abs lights on and after an hour of driveing approximately can lose a little bit of power not cut out will keep cruiseing but with no poke then stop restart it seems fine :censored:

at this price i think its a bargain done 94000 miles and looks clean and in good condition and i always like a project im tempted now to get this as it does make mine look a bit of a shed:( it even has a working sunroof:love:
i could then swap my brakes drilled grooved i had off pid v6 upgrade calipers :geek: and nice wheels new tyres stereo etc over from the 16v and move 16v on to a new owner with a nice new mot or even keep both my mrs going to kill me i think

any ideas wat could be causeing power loss guys im tempted to get this :devilish:

oh reason my mrs going to kill me is i just bought s type jag v8 that needs work aswell [anti freeze leaking under air intake] she thinks i dont like being at home much seen as i work a sixty hour week aswell
im also starting to fill drive now with insignia and a zafira cougar 16v but i keep explaining to her they all been bargains o_O but truth is probably that i enjoy working on them and they keep me busy and out of trouble

any educated guess on issues for me to think about before buying would be readily accepted trying to find reason not to buy but at this price there not many things to consider would put me off got funny idea issue could be abs module getting heat soaked or maybe speed sensor on gear box but im not certain

im hopeing to be able to drive one of these cars to meet some of you guys this year and thank people for advise help and parts etc :stop:(y)

The power issue will be the IMRC failing under heat soak. Common issue but you might be lucky in that respect as you can relocate it from the top of the front bank ( Engine ) to under the battery tray.

oh would that be abs light? and is it a lot of work relocateing wat is imrc ? im sorry kinda thick more of a move that bit to tha kind of guy lmao

Hello Dan good to hear from you again.
Both of the issues flagged-up on the V6 have been covered many times on the forum.

As Peter says it's the IMRC that's more than likely causing the loss of power after driving for a while as they suffer from heat soak due to them being situated above the front bank exhaust manifold under the black plastic cover that usually has Duratec V6 on it.

The ABS problem could be more expensive/troublesome to fix as it sounds as though the ABS unit itself is playing-up. This is usually down to the electronics module on the ABS unit becoming fubarred.

thanks fellas
Ok abs module maybe and move imrc sounds good mrs has had starck word with me lol if i get v6 the 16v will have to go or jag
So may break the 2.0l is abs same on 16v as v6 fellas
The few nice bits i got on 16v can be transferred to v6 like pids drilled grooved discs i also got rear ones nice new battery i bought bigger one new wipers new tyres alround and have a few items to sell and a lot of spares to put one side and a car that i can finally come to meets in summer with fellas
And oh just seen abs module on ebay 20 quid think im going down v6 route and breaking 16v

sounds like a plan just arranged to get car 22nd have a closer look then

thanks fellas i finally got time to sort one of these cars out anyway lmao

ABS could be as simple as a cracked ring, if it's the module it's not a simple job the thing is properly, properly buried in the engine bay, then I believe you had to bleed the thing properly once it's installed too.

biggest thing to check on the new one is how much the tinworms have eaten......everything alse is part swapping

if i remember the abs units/modulator differ between the 2.0 and 2.5, traction control on 2.5

That's a shame, since he's breaking the Zetec so has a "spare" right there. Makes sense though because of the way that TC works on the V6.

Paul, I take your point and I could be wrong, but the fact that the car loses power after getting good and hot (we obviously don't know if the ABS light is flashing...) points more toward IMRC to me. No harm in replacing/relocating it anyway though, right?

I defo going down v6 route guy says car drives fine for up to an hour so collecting on 22
And imrc consider it moved first thing to do as is free and even if it aint problem it aint going to play up in future that way lol
any way will put car on garage diagnostic up my mates c wat it comes up with pity it dont work from the zetec though as could have to hand and eliminated problem straight away started putting things like brake disks i got off pid on it and my new tyres i bought for the zetec etc etc
Cos its due mot shortly in feb and want it done for then lol ready for summer i got plenty holiday leave to use up before april lol so got time to get car done for a change lol that why im asking you great people upfront wat i need to be looking at when i get this car home cos it aint sitting around like the zetec

Okay, so the IMRC (Inlet Manifold Runner Control) can fail and relocating it sometimes helps. But please don't be disappointed if it doesn't. Once it's wrecked, moving it may not help. It can still fail even if you move it.

Your experience may vary.

As for your MOT? Subframe and sills. You may want to consider keeping your Zetec until you pass your test, since you might end up making one good one out of two broken ones.

Solved my issues with my car when I bought it and that was nearly 9 years ago now and I had the exact same problem when engine was hot. It costs nothing to do this and could well work. Nothing to lose. Good luck.

I was working off the fact that the IMRC usually fails at a rev range not an engine running duration but then I have never had one fail :smug:
