Warning lights?

Hi dudes,

I have two issues.

My bulb warning light is on on the overhead cluster. I found that the front two sie light bulbs had blown. Replaced them, checked all other light and they work. The light remains on. Any ideas of what's going on?

Also my check brake pads light is on. Previous guy installed pads without the sensors so the sensor wires are in an open circuit triggering the light. Can I just splice them together to achieve continuity or earth them to make the light bugger off. It's getting on my mammories!

This. I must have a loose connection on one of my rear brake light bulbs, as my warning lamp is nearly always on. When I can be bothered, if I prop something against the brake pedal then walk round the back of the car and rap the third brake light with my knuckle, the 'missing' bulb will come on and the warning light goes out. Sometimes it just sorts itself out during a drive (bumps in the road, I guess?). I really should sort it out, but I've been telling myself that for years!

As well as actual blown bulbs, check that the correct amperage bulbs have been fitted. The system works by checking current draw as well as continuity (the warning light stays on until you press the brake pedal). So if you have the wrong bulb installed in a holder, you will get a warning.

Yes, you can do this. Either bridge the connector with a piece of wire, or take the male connector from a set of worn pads and bridge that. And then be very careful about brake wear, please.
 
Hi guys, thanks for suggestions.

I have checked every bulb manually except front fogs and re-seated them including the 3 rear brake bulbs. They all work!

I haven't checked for amperages, good shout, but will do. I'm flummoxed!

I got the pad wear light to go out by completing the circuit. Will keep an eye on pads. They are thick atm. When I change them I'll buy the ones with the sensors and hook them back up.

Sorted! I re-seated the upper brake lights and went for a drive today, hey presto the light has gone out.

Now I just need to sort out the corroded rear ARB bracket and i'm good to go. Bloody cars!
