What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Ricky updated his post/photo since that reply of mine Chris. The second photo shows how he should be ok to lift it into alignment as i suggested in post ~3637

I must have missed this, I have just brought some SS ties, hopefully this will lift this up and keep in place :)

Tried to get to the bottom of my over revving at idle today. Stripped off the UIM, LIM, Air box etc and checked all the gaskets. Cleaned everything up and checked all hoses for tight fitment. Put it all back together and Hey Presto . . . . still the same! It has got me stumped at the moment, but, I will get to the bottom of it eventually.

Absolutely nothing - have instead been replacing the completely burned-out clutch in my sister-in-law's Fiesta.

I...I kind of feel the need to go out and hurt a random stranger now.

well thats just weird...was sure it was the lim leaking...its gotta be getting excess air in somewhere..could it be the throttle gasket leaking...the idle air does go round the back of thiso_O

Lovely day here on the south coast so I decided to give her a good clean, always find it strangely comforting rubbing a cloth over the boob shaped domes on the headlights......think I need to get out more :(

Not at all mate, it was just great to have someone to talk to about it! In any case it was a total success... once we learned the trick do bleeding that particular type of slave cylinder!

Frankly I would rather have been helping you!

Especially since pinching the pipe that leads to the IACV forces the revs to settle down...

I agree

I would have come and helped you if you'd said!

Does that not point to the iacv being the issue or have I missed something?

I think that what was going on there, was that pinching the pipe starved the IACV of air that it was attempting to let through. You could actually moderate the idle by increasing or decreasing how much you pinched it.

Coupled with the fact that we tried this with the IACV from Paul's car, what that suggested to us was that there was a downstream air leak, and there was definitely a hiss audible near Cyl5.

TBH - and to be fair I haven't entirely been keeping up with exactly all that Dick has done - I'd have the UIM and LIM off, check all mating surfaces for cleanliness and evenness and then use a new set of gaskets straight out of the packet.
