What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Checked my right rear tyre, it was flat again yesterday, completely 0 psi. Filled it up to 34psi and tonight it's still ok :eek:, i can't find a leak anywhere, very strange.
I also had my dash out again, my elglow dials have been acting stupid for a while, on/off/on/off........on...off etc etc etc. Switch is ok, all connections continue/resist ok, dials el-panel ok, inverter :stop::rolleyes:. Looks like it, so today i ordered a new one, wow they're expensive at £2.92 :LOL: and i made sure the connectors are accessible from below the dash panel.

Just given the Cougar a quick wash over as it looked like it had been in the RAC rally....
Hopefully with the next bout of stickers and spotlamps I have planned that'll be a permanent look :)

Just as an aside, this keeps happening to my offside rear too! It'll be fine for a week or so and then one morning I'll come out and find it absolutely pancaked. I do check the pressure on my tyres regularly, so it's not as though the low profile is hiding the low pressure, if you get what I mean.

My assumption, (other than the possibility that the neighbour I shouted at for ruining my hedge is fu...messing with me) is that the lacquer on the wheel is compromised in an area that I haven't been able to reach, and the abrupt temperature drops we've been having recently are allowing the alloy to shrink away from the tyre's lip, exposing the cracks.

The tyre needs replacing anyway so I'll ask them to flap-wheel the bead lands and use plenty of goop to seal it all up. I guess we'll see after that.

fitted HT leads to MY cougar and battery put on charge though i have little hope for it as its been flat for 3 years :LOL:

I put T's Mazda battery on (slow) charge the other week because it was completely doornail. Went out to the garage a few hours later to check on it, and it was hot enough to replace our boiler.

You don't need advice from me old friend, but for anyone else reading this, please be careful. Turns out that boiling battery acid is somewhat unpleasant.

About time:rolleyes::LOL:

Let me know if you need a hand getting her on the road mate(y)

planning on having a go at it one weekend soon as Gems cougar needs front sills welding and also part of the passenger floor where it meets the inner sill so it may not be viable so need to get mine back roadworthy so she will atleast have a car to use

specially if you do it in the house as there are no powerpoints in my garage, cue stinky sulphur, best part was Gem was in the room and initially blamed one of the cats :LOL:

My chemistry is a bit FE[SUP]2[/SUP]O[SUP]3[/SUP] (LOL! Rusty, geddit? LOL Oh, I kill me) but as far as I know what you're describing there is hydrogen sulphide caused by a deeply discharged cell that has come close to inverting.

Nowhere near as dangerous as straight hydrogen off-gassing, and nowhere near as dangerous as me trying to charge that MK5 battery without supervising it, but the stench is definitely the Devil's soup and, if you smell it, you should stick it outside and think about a call to Tayna.

The resident chemist can confirm that yes its hydrogen sulphide - which is actually very toxic !! :eek:. . . but the smell is detectable at such low concentrations that it's very obvious before it's at a dangerous level.

The danger with hydrogen is a if you get a build-up in an enclosed space followed by a spark which could be exciting :)
