What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Yup I still shiver thinking about those T50 bolts

Back when I had Mako, they actually reduced me to a bubbling wreck. Stilsons wouldn't even touch them because of the limited access. I eventually had to call my FiL over to help me tear down the wheel stations so I could get a drill on them. Madness.

And alty and headers are next on my list, lucky me

Who...who is this?? PRANK CALLER! PRANK CALLER!

Just kidding - I'll get stuck in if you need me.

You need a guy with small, dextrous hands who's done plenty of alternators before.
Any suggestions?:devilish:

Yeah. Remove the UIM so you can get at the bolts more easily. You're all welcome.

Thats the method I recommend going for everytime now, just take the pinch and ARB bolt off...smack the hub with all your pent up anger because what @$!$$@€ $@$!!! thought these bolts were a good idea!! Then you can get the stillsons in and get them straight off.

Going to give it all a go next month when ive got some time off..should be simple....the headers came off the C2 easy how hard can it be to put them back on

Drove it back home from the garage with a nice new MOT without any advisories. Unfortunately they did not have time to replace the ABS reluctor ring or the front brake pipes, but, i will take it back to them when I get back from Castle Howard.

Well Done Dick.... As if it would have been anything different ;)

Not that I'm gatekeeping here, but I feel like there's two jobs that you have to do before you can really say that you're getting invested in your Cougar.

One is the rear brake disks, because of those damned T50s. The other is the alternator.

Some here might say that you need to experience the unique delights of changing exhaust headers while the engine is still in the bay. Others might talk about their water pump and releasing the hoses from the stubs. Still others might suggest that it's a full engine swap that gives you the keys to the kingdom.

But I think that the two I mentioned are the ones that most shade-tree mechanics will come across, and they teach you so very much about Fords in general, and creative swearing in particular.

I remember the days when all you needed to do was Dare to drive a ZETEC! :devilish:

Great news :)

Now its what all the cool people do :)

Coat of wax all over ready for tomorrow and plugged forscan in to see what it does - I think it may be too advanced for me!

I did manage to clear the fault codes and the code log, think I will have to read up on what else it does

Just took out the paper filter and put in a pipercross (it's about all I can do for air as I understand there's no space for a bigger airbox on the auto?)
I've found a tube that goes nowhere though, is it some sort of breather tube or have I pulled it off something by accident? I've marked where it comes from (under the battery)

Not sure if its different with the Auto but you should have two breather pipes going into the bellows.

Other than that could it be the one that attaches to the bottom of the Upper Intake Manifold

It seems too small to be either of them? Didnt the standard box have a breather hose that just 'dangled' for any water that got into the box?

I dont think so Ricky but it has been a while :)

Pretty sure not though as im using the standard bellows and there is only two breather pipes coming off it

That pipe doesnt look familar though specially with that little box clip on it, it does seem to be connecting near the gear box though so must be something to do with it being an auto?

Is it possible a vent tube for the ATX itself?
