What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

I have one of them in my garage, it's off of a mondeo. Complete with mounting studs. The last one that sold on here went for 50 quid, so, if anyone is interested, start bidding.

Stroke of luck it happened in the garage Peter. My guess would be the ball joint has seized and the turning force has sheared it off. Not too unlike what happened with the "uprated" droplinks from a few years back.

The thing is they were brand new last MOT in April. The car has done less than 500 miles since then. So I have no idea why it happened apart from it must have been faulty from the factory.

Going from 215 to 225 shouldn't be a problem as many have done this with standard wheels which are 6.5J (or 6.5") IIRC. Your 19"ers must be between 7 and 8J so probably happier with the extra tyre width.

Well if that is the case I will change all 4 for the wider size as they are much cheaper.

Hmm. You may well be right. But the cost of a metallurgical analysis to prove it would be more than the car's worth.

Better to replace the tyre and both droplinks, suck down the cost, and accept that bad things sometimes happen with a side-order of being grateful that you're not dead (Steve Morris had something similar happen to him - a snapped spring - at the thick end of 70MPH ).

And I say both droplinks because even if the other one is okay now, it may fail if it was from the same batch. Not to mention the fact that one shiny new suspension component on only one side of the car is a red rag to MOT guys. As it should be.

I have already done both yesterday and I have my 18" alloys on the car now while I source either a replacement tyre for the alloy or a complete new set of tyres for the 19" alloys. I am going to refurbish both sets anyhow so I might as well get the ones done that are off the car first seen as these will be my show wheels and they will get little use anyhow.

Nothing today, but yesterday i replaced the O/S driveshaft and oil seal and cured the "knock" Ialso temporarily removed the rear lights to fix that damned cover down. It's been bugging me for months

If you look in the right places the covers can be cheap, but mounting studs and balls will cost you £30 from Fords.
I just got the studs and made the ball mounts myself, but I should have made the studs as they did look cheap when I got them.

Had a good weekend on the cat, first removed the Viper induction kit and replaced with original airbox with K&N panel filter and put in an extra cold air feed pipe.
Then did a few touch ups to the paint work and left overnight to dry, this morning colour sanded paint and buffed to a gloss then washed and then clay barred to remove polish splatter and washed again and then finally waxed with Auto Glymm high definition wax
and the results

pleased with the results

Added some of Al's logos to the front wheels (y)

Fitted US spec wheel centres and used 3M headlight restro kit on near side 2007_0101cougar-sept0005.jpg2007_0101cougar-sept0004.jpg did scuff the paint a bit on the bumper inspite of 3 layers of masking tape but its got to be repainted at some point, put some Autoglym wheel protecter spray on but it dried with some white patches so not that keen on it but will see if it does any good over time.
