What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Oh, definitely. The prospect of sudden and catastrophic failure when having to stamp on the brakes at motorway speeds doesn't bear thinking about. I'm actually glad it's been found, as I didn't have a clue. There was no mention of it on the last test and I'd not noticed any drop off in braking efficiency.

Did you know you can get the reluctor rings on ebay for less than a tenner and would have saved you some time as they are easy to fit (y)

Hi mate yes saw the rings but thought if im pulling it down to fit one I may as well just fit a new complete shaft for £48 quid

If it's any consolation, the Cougar has a tandem master cylinder. One line does nearside front and offside rear, and the other does the other two. If a line ruptures, a piston slams over the affected line and you still have brakes on two wheels. You won't be left with no brakes at all.

1) Okay so yesterday, Tiger got a new bonnet. The stone chips on her old one (which was itself a replacement for the hailstone-damaged original) were pretty bad when I installed it. The lacquer wasn't great either, with lots of spider-webbing in it.

So when an Ebony one came up for £30 (thanks Telboy) I took it on the basis that Paul (Shirtyzeus) had had a look and thought it was okay. No chips at least and there's no way I could respray my old one for that amount anyway.

It came off a car that had sat in a field for 2+ years, so of course it needed some cosmetic attention to the lacquer. After machine compounding and waxing, I think it'll be fine after another couple of goes. If any of you remember what Tiger was like when I bought her, you'll know I can do it.

2) I am convinced that there are certain setups where moosing is inevitable. I cured it before, but after my ST200 swap it came back. No amount of cleaning the IACV helped (nor did replacing it with a known-good one) so I decided that I had no choice but to create an anti-moosing kit.

I didn't really use any science here other than to ensure that the kit was not a multiple of the length of the original pipe, since that would lead to the same resonance. In the end I used 90cm of flexible, reinforced pipe from B&Q (which was by some miracle exactly the right diameter) looped around the master cylinder reservoir and cable tied in place. No more moose, even from cold and with the aircon on. Total cost, £4.98.

I'll get some pics tomorrow or something.

For most of us this is a rotten time of year to do jobs - especially if you need to secure help. I'll be there for you all whenever I can, but between on-call (and other work demands), staff holidays, Christmas shopping and the flaming weather, that's going to be patchy.

Well, the struts and lowering springs are fitted to the front, now awaiting on rebuilding the MK3 mondeo calipers

Put in the switch for the angel eyes :)

After a comedy of errors involving misplaced house keys, we ended up staying another night in Burnley. Nick got the Cougar all mended today and she now has a shiny new MOT.

many thanks to terry telboy for the prev weekend dispite the Saturday's poring rain where we both got to basically strip the guts out of a VERY POORLY c2 and i got the interior and switches, modules etc for....£70.

chris got a good bonnet and dash and i also got something very shinnneeey for my engine bay..your a star terry..pictures will come soon after ive done some modification.other things need painting first or they'll show it all up.??

Lindsey thankyou for the bacon and drink.

i'd like to mention that terry only buys and strips severe cases of mot faliure and has provided me with a great deal of stuff...
some mot faliure's he has even got repaired up and sold keeping them on the road.
i hate seeing a cougar getting scraped but as many have said some are just way beyond repair. this ebony c2 had been parked up in a field and was green from the wheels downwards and the rust was torturing the poor old girl...my beam jack went clean through the subby:eek:

Terry is a proper, honest gent, bought my C2 from him with absolute confidence and I wasn`t wrong!

£70.00 is insanely cheap but that is how he rolls

Rich - nice one mate, the Mafia certainly know their stuff (y)
