What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Fitted some HIDs. A couple of recent night-time drives have highlighted just how woeful the standard headlights are! Also replaced the main beam bulbs with some Osram Nightbreakers.

I did try to replace the sidelight bulbs with LED ones but turns out the ones I bought are too fat and won't fit into the holders. Can anyone recommend me some that will fit?

I washed it today and took it out to collect the kids from school. Always an interesting trip that one, funny watching the kids mouths fall open when they see the car.

Do you have C1 lights? If so, I don't recommend the usual push-in LED bulbs. The holder (and the channel it fits into) is at an angle, meaning the LED doesn't directly face the lens. Suber-bright LEDs end up not much brighter than incandescents because they're just pointing mostly at black plastic...

Shirtyzeus modified his so that the LED is directly behind the lens and they are much brighter...

...and bleed the system.

You haven't drained it down completely, have you?

No Mako, I haven't just swapping over the calipers and brake lines, when I say system I mean (front lines) lol my apology.

None needed! It's just that it turns out that resetting the ABS pump - which if you drain the system you have to do - is apparently ridiculously expensive still. Procomm had it done last year and if I remember correctly it was on the order of £200. Lord knows why.

Just wanted to save you any grief.

Yeah, it's a C1. The brightness isn't really my main concern, it was more to have nice white sidelights to go with the HIDs. The standard sidelights look a bit yellow in comparison now.

Thanks Andy, taken long enough hasn't it? All thanks to you fella this took place! Cheers.

As for the side lights mart, I've got leds in my side lights, although they are a bit too tall in the lamp, they do give a better "look" in my opinion, I'll look for the link mate :)

Might have to invest in one of these. My Jag key is looking decidedly secondhand and takes repeated button presses whilst literally inches from the car to get a response.

Fitted some LED sidelight bulbs to match my HIDs - thanks again for the link John, they fit perfectly & look great (y)

I also now have LED number plate lights and reversing lights. LED boot and interior lights next (when the bulbs arrive) and then possibly tail lights and brake lights (including the middle one, if I can work out how to get to it :) )

Glad they worked out mate ;-)

Well today, my kitty has had the rear lowered, the rear subframe wire brushed and painted with hammerite :) also rear calipers painted red to match the front :D

check those LED bulbs buddy, I bought some when I made a clear brake light and couldn't reassemble the cluster, this is because the ones I bought had a plastic shoulder

https://forums.ukcougar.club/threads/22244-How-I-made-my-clear-centre-brake-light!

I needed to enlarge the holes in the reflector slightly before I could get it all back together again, and then after a few weeks went back to filament bulbs as the LEDs weren't bright enough in the daylight!

Do you have the early '7 hole' overhead warning cluster? you'll need to take care of the bulb out warning if you do too.

best of luck with it (y)

Thanks mate. Mine's got the later overhead cluster with 5 lights, so no bulb-out warning to worry about (y)

It's already taken me 2 attempts to replace the front sidelights and the same with the number plate lights due to varying sizes of bulbs, so I'm already learning to be careful about what I buy :). At least they're all pretty cheap, so experimenting to find what fits isn't too painful on the wallet. Plus, what I can't use on the Cougar can always be tried on our Puma (y)
