What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Got underneath mine in search of the source of my leak and found... nothing. Not a sign, no residue on the undertray, bottom rad hose and clip look good, no evidence of leaking there either. My oil filter was a touch loose (but not by much) so I tightened that up, otherwise all looks well. Guess I'll have to keep an eye out for more puddles.
Also replaced the front droplinks, the old ones were definately past it. They didn't match either, someone in the past has replaced one and not the other.
Lastly, stuck some LED bulbs in the front fogs. And managed to squash my thumb pretty hard and now the nail's gone a funny colour....

Coolant disappearing? Could be a leaky heater matrix - had this on my old C2. It would drip from underneath between the exhaust flexi and the cat.
Fluid levels all seem fine. On the couple of occasions this has happened the puddle's appeared further forward as if leaking from the radiator (or that general area). Having checked it out though I can't see any evidence that this is the cause, so I'm gonna stop worrying about it for now, especially as no more puddles have appeared in the last week or so

Finally had a chance to get under the car and check out how solid it was, subframe and few bits had some rust on but a rub down, ACF50 coating which is absolutely brilliant stuff and then underseal over it. Changed rear rubber mounts on exhaust, had all wheel arch liners off and undersealed and painted calipers
Removed the rear seats, rear doorcards and inspection panels as well as the long trim pieces that run along the bottom of each door opening and had a good look inside my inner sills (after extracting and throwing away the foam blocks). I was expecting the worst but was pleasantly surprised - each side had a small patch of surface rust at the rear (couple of inches square on one side, a little larger on the other), gave them a good prod with a screwdriver and they still seem pretty solid, so dolloped some Kurust in, left to dry and then sprayed in as much Bilt Hamber as I could get in there.
Treated the seats to a bit of leather cleaner, gave everything a good hoover (a previous owner of my car must have had young kids judging by the amount of old sweets I found under the rear bench) and re-assembled, finally fitting the C2 rear doorcards that I bought months ago.
And now I hurt - you certainly need to bend yourself in some interesting ways when you're working in the back of these cars!

Yep, done that exact pose - in the passenger seat - while fitting courtesy lighting and splicing into the loom behind the fusebox.
Next time I do it, I'm going to take a feed all the way from the flaming OHC. I don't care if it's a waste of wire.

Back in 2010, I bought a Rover 200 with a blown gearbox and head gasket, just to tide me over. After getting it sound mechanically - which took all weekend - I decided to valet it.
In the nearside seat pocket I found £2.64 and a slice of buttered toast.
It was surreal. Like, some child that I never met and never will decided that he was done with his rushed breakfast and decided to dispose of it in the nearest convenient place without mum knowing.
That car was an absolute treasure trove of evidence from a middle-class suburban woman's life. I know what colour her hair was (dark brunette) and that it was curly. I had enough of it - with roots - that I could've identified her family line from mitochodrial DNA.
I know she used cheap cosmetics. I know that she took the car to France at least once and that she lived somewhere near Lewisham. I also know that she had one child and that she used to seat him on the nearside. This was possibly to maintain a connection with him while driving, but also because if she lived near Lewisham, it's unlikely she had a driveway - she just loaded the seat in from the pavement side.
I'm also sure that her one child was male because I didn't find a single hairband or barette in the rear of the car.
I even know who she either worked for or interacted with, because of the logos on the pens I found.
I also know that she was well aware of the HGF since the boot was littered with 3L bottles filled with water.

Well, because i've been feeling a tad better these last few days, and boredom has well and truly got the better of me, and DG has really been neglected for a while, i decided to go out and try my hand at a nice little easy job of swapping the rear droplinks. I replaced the bushes a few weeks ago for the poly ones but i can't get rid of the slight knock on local roads, so i bought a pair of delphi's. Job done with plenty of care to my shoulder etc and the job went with no hassle at all. I was so chuffed, i decided to give DG a wash over, sadly that was as far as i was prepared to push my luck so no polish today . Tomorrow we try a run out to sunny Skeggy for the day, painkillers at the ready :beer:
