What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Very surprised by that, I thought a pass was nailed on, especially after all that work.
At least there's only that 1 thing on the sheet.

Bit picky eh Dan? Did he adjust it up for you while it was on the ramp?

No its back at home now..pretty sure I adjusted it correctly when I did it

Going to order a new cable for that side but the one on there is less than 18 months old

Doesnt make any sense this. Just had both sides up and with all my force could not move either wheel with the handbrake on

I'm absolutely shocked that your handbrake failed - I know just how much work you've done back there. Did he tell you exactly how much force it was delivering? Like, how bad of a fail was it?

On a positive note, your emissions are very similar to Tiger's. You've got a cherry of an engine there and she's obviously been well looked after. Not only that, you haven't got a single advisory other than an "oil leak"!

Onward and upward, Dan.

I was too, when he called and said the handbrake I thought he must be having me on thats the one thing ( other than the subframe thanks to you) that I thought was 100%.

He said it was borderline, problem is he hasnt yet been on his MOT course for this year and had to take it to his friends Garage, he said if he had done it under his name for me it would have been an advisory that it was requirement just met.

I was very happy with those emissions too...whoever said our big engine V6 is a planet killer needs that throwing in their face

Got a new cable on the way and 10 days for a free retest so ill fit and adjust..even if it means them slightly binding ill get a pass on them as they will only check the parking brake not anything else ;) then take it home and loosen it back up

I feel for you there - sounds like just... bad luck. My MOT guy has always said that the Mondeo/Cougar handbrake design is problematic and that if he thinks the car is well-maintained and the handbrake is just marginal, he'll pass it. In my case, both sides passed but there was a clear difference in force between them. But only on the handbrake; the service brakes were identical in force.

Sounds like you've got this under control but, if you need any help at all, please let me know what you need and I'll be there.

Gutted! Sorry Dan! Can't believe it, that caliper was brand new about 2 months ago and genuine Ford! Must just be a weakened cable, but sure you'll get it sorted soon

Im sure its more of a cable/adjustment issue rather than the caliper

Wouldnt be the first time ford made a dud though but im sure thats not the case in this instance :)

adjust the failed caliper piston out until it just binds Dan, then take the car for a drive to bed it bad to the pads. Keep checking your handbrake (y). Try a handbrake stop from a safe speed and on a safe road to feel if the car is pulling one side.

A handbrake... That tester must have been potty trained at knifepoint.

Since he passed all but the handbrake, you should slap the non-mot lights back on when you take it back for the handbrake to be checked.

Might have been the weight of your keyring collection, though. Drop em down to just the car key and any keys you need to get back into your house after a drive - might help the handbrake issues and give you a couple of tenths back on the 0-60 ;)

Changed the passenger side handbrake cable and put my old caliper back on as the new one was leaking behind the handbrake arm

Adjusted the handbrake on both sides too, the lever pulls further up now and I can feel the brake is on a little bit when im driving.

Still the car will try to move forward with a little bit of gas but just on the clutch will stall..parked on a very steep hill and held perfect

Ill book it in for the retest next week and hope for the best (y)

She'll be fine Dan(y)

Did a bit of boob polishing:LOL:, using some Farecla G3 scratch remover and a microfibre cloth. Very happy with the results, i'm sure it would be better with a proper applicator but it'll do for now.
I know the car has more fundamental issues, but this kind of thing keeps me going until the big jobs can get done.

Boobs before....

I'm still amazed by the condition of the bodywork on this car, it's so good.
