What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

You've chopped loads more than I did Alan.
Mine still has the bottom section.
I suspect you're intending to fit the bezel supplied with the radio. I didn't, but I filled the side gaps with something else.

Today my alternator was removed and taken to the local auto electrical workshop. I don't currently have the facilities to do it myself, so have enlisted my local garage to do the swap in their workshop. On the ramp at 9:00am and I get a call at 10:15am to collect the alternator and deliver it to the auto electrician. So not bad considering I'd hidden the locking wheel nut in the torque wrench box in the boot under a pile of brake parts !

As expected, the flickering battery / charge light looks likely to have been due to the slip rings and brush gear. The small bearing also definitely had noticeable play and felt 'gritty'. But out of the unit, I couldn't really fault the larger bearing, but it's done anyway. The slip rings were a total mess, I don't know how it held out so long. Several burned areas can be seen in the photos. The brushes were well worn too, with the copper connecting braid visible on the contact faces and one of the brushes really only contacting on about 40% of it's width for about 75% of it's length, again see photos. It seems that the regulator and rectum fryers were still at peak efficiency. The belt although serviceable, is going to be renewed. All parts back to the garage before end of business, ready for an early start tomorrow.

Cost of the overhaul - £48 + VAT for a 4 hour turnaround. Fixed price repair, so could have included more parts if required and includes a 2 year warranty. Labour to remove and refit alternator - £36 per hour. New Belt £18. So far I'm pleased with the result, I'll update with the final result tomorrow...

Picked the Cat up today, all fixed and even sounds quieter. Maybe due to the new belt or that bearing ? About an hour later I got a callout to Norwich, about 50 miles round trip - superb. I even put the front screen demister on AND the rear one AND full fan / lights !

Nice little surprise when paying too. I had offered my services on a previous visit when their phones and PDQ terminal was dead ( admittedly it ended up taking a couple of hours to track down a dreadful BTism ). The owner had remembered and knocked the labour off the bill ! So £71 for parts only, including alty repair and the dreaded VAT. That'll do nicely !

Fitted C2 cruise wheel to Red and fitted Focal Access CA570 speakers to the doors

Question : Is the cruise relay in the same place as on a C1 and does the C2 have a warning light for cruise on the dash?

(Technically that is two questions!)

No and yes Rik.

There isn't a specific cruise relay in either model.

The cruise warning lamp in the C2 is where the 'missing' side-lamps 'on' warning lamp is in the C1, 5th one up on the left-hand side.

I made the decision to put it back together today, since the subject of moving back to our old house came up. Considering almost every bolt is out of the car the wife told me we should just go ahead and sell it instead of being a hoarder, sell was kinda the plan but then I realized exactly how much room in a moving truck it would take to house an entire cougar disassembled. I've decided the parts would be easier to move if they were in their respectable places during the move, i.e. on the car.

Seems backwards that its Al's bday but I got a present from him today

Badge fitted to C2 grille..quality of these spot on as always thanks Alan (y)

Next step is to use the perfect clarity kit to restore the c2 lights, then get the angle grinder out and fit them

So went to the pull yard for a shift solenoid for Sophia. Who'd of thought I would find Luci's other eye in the process??

30 bucks I wasn't plannin to spend but when deals strike you gotta jump on it.
