Problem is though if you've only got one key makes it much harder to program it yourself

You can do it via forscan but if it all goes wrong then your really stuck.

Yeah thats why I think its powder coated. Its laid in the weeds for 2 years and the car it was in sat in a yard for a few years. I think most of that ick on it is actually dirt not rust.

Thanks, it is quite a relief ! I think that they think some sort of lacquer has been applied, perhaps that 'Lens Paint' stuff you see on eBay. It looks a bit yellowed and crinkly at the moment. Glad its not the reflectors anyway. Good thing that you asked in fact, as I was just thinking 'If I only knew what it was, I might be able to find a solvent', as I have many in my collection. In the 'Specification' for this stuff it tells me to use 'white spirit' ! I will of course 'test on a hidden part of the item for compatibility'. However, I have some uPVC cleaner somewhere and I swear that smells of paraffin, so might give that a try too...

I thinking of trying some smoke film on my headlights to tone down the startled bunny look, plus it's easily reversible.

although I can't deny, I quite like this look...

Ironically, spraying the internals, (though not the reflectors) is probably less likely to get you an advisory since the lens isn't occluded. Especially if you do it to the high standard that Jim did and make it look stock.

While I won't criticise your taste, I have to say that (deliberately) yellow headlights says to me, "I spend a lot of time at my holiday home at Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, in the Dordogne. That's in the South of France, you know."

Good to see that a minor oil leak is still just an advisory, there was talk that any oil leak would be a fail under the new regs.

That would be insane. I mean, I get it - oil on the roads is no bueno - but even brand-new cars have gaskets that weep.

We already have regs in place under the old MOT for significant oil leaks. No need for more BS.
 
Thanks guys, I should have mentioned that the emissions were amazing, often being in spec by more than a factor of 10. I guess that's normally the case with these engines ?

Tiger has always passed on engine stuff for the last 6 years, no problem. She has been exemplary.

But since doing my fuel filter and plugs, she stinks of petrol. Not sure whether she's now normal, or just needs an ECU reset to re-learn.

Imagine if Tiger failed her MOT just because I did right by her.
