What're your MPG's like?

First thing you can do is, if you have an Android smartphone or tablet, get a Bluetooth OBD2 dongle from eBay and the Torque app from the market. Check for error codes. It's worth the investment and may save you spending out on parts you may not need. (y)

Poor MPG, my first port of call would be the lambda sensors - but there may be fault codes if this is the case.

My old Cougar was pretty good: about 25 around town and a best-ever of 38 on the motorway when travelling back to UK at a steady 80mph. Motorway was usually around 35-37mph depending on distance travelled.
New Cat was less good initially as it had been standing for at least 12 months on the dealer's back lot. Now after a service, two oil changes, as well as the twin Blue Flame being transplanted from the old car and some sprited pedal mashing to clear the clag, it's approaching the old car on motorway performance, but still much lower around town. New tyres going on this week should make a big difference: the old ones are more or less perished and it's like driving on wooden rims in the wet.

OK I drive like Miss Daisy most of the time and get about 31 on semi-urban drives from a standard V6 manual. Higher in summer and lower in winter. I have also read loads of MPG posts and about 30 is the norm for the manual v6 I think but the auto would be a bit less.

Thanks Again Mate,
Ok so ive got a tablet & the dongle & have downloaded the apps so the next
step is to hook it up to the car but dono how to do it. Only way i can think of
is to use a usb port hooked up to my cigi lighter,if thats wrong let me know

I've recently started a new job and have to go through Nottingham in the rush hour (morning and evenings), 13 mile journey, takes anywhere between 40 to 90  minutes (normally 1 hour), average 22mpg.

On a longer motorway run, with a bit or urban at each end, normally get 35mpg.

Do your air filter, spark plugs and fuel filter and your MPG will raise if its in need of the above
