The previous owner of my Cougar had a stainless steel backbox welded to the centre section, must have been a fitting issue, and this morning at 7.30 on a petrol forecourt the whole lot decided to snap and land on the ground. Not at all embarrasing. The back box is a genuine Ford stainless item but not sure what car it has come from. Anyway i have rang around looking for a new centre section and back box but no one seems to have them. They can give me a price but nothing else?! Tried europarts but they have nothing it seems. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Thanks alot!

You can get non genuine parts from most motor factors. Alternatively, a simple bespoke system can be fabricated for around £300 - going upwards for a all singing all dancing effort

It was the motor factors i was speaking to mate, had 2 of them tell me they can't get them and they were talking about the non genuine stuff. Have another place who are going to check their supplier on Monday and get back to me. The intention was always to get a stainless cat back system but didn't think I'd be forced into it this way lol.

Just rang another place there and after checking his computer he recommended I try Passion Ford lol. Not looking too good!

The fact that you're struggling to find something as simple as an exhaust is a good illustration of where these cars are now.

Good luck with your search, I've just posted in your wanted thread :)

Having looked at photo's online, am I right in thinking that the centre section runs to another box behind the rear bumper N/S and then to the back box? Mine has been cut/welded to run from the centre section to the back box. Sorry if thats what the links above were showing, I didnt twig until I saw photos.

Another thing, can anyone identify a Ford exhaust with the number F10-1476 stamped on it. I googled but found nothing. Thanks again

I'm guessing thats why its so easy to fit a twin exhaust! Starting to look like a stainless system of some sort is going to be the most cost effective way forward.

If fitting a twin exit more often than not the towing eye socket has to be removed(IIRC 3 bolts) and the tie-down eye 'modified'(with a hammer).;)

A tiny backstreet garage called AA Silencers in Stafford did mine, totally bespoke cat-back system for £130 (including exhaust tips).

This doesn't include any backboxes though since i've got straight through from the cat to a Y pipe and 2 tailpipes.

They were excellent though and seem to know their stuff, if you happen to want one and are anywhere near staffordshire!

That sounds great but I'm in N.Ireland sadly!

Have this sorted now, the art of welding is well and truely alive lol. Cat back system in the summer though. Must have been going a while as car is a bit quieter and seems more responsive although that could be the 7 letter word starting with P lol.
