After winter hibernation got the old girl out gave her a good spin then stalled and won't restart. Was low on fuel so topped up with a jerrycan full but she just twines away and won't start.

Leave it for a while.

It might just be a touch reluctant to go rather than anything critically wrong.

There is lots to check but if I was you before you do anything else prime the fuel system a few times, hold the accelerator flat against the floor and crank the engine for five seconds.

Give it a few minutes then try and restart it. Go from there.

Just got her back, it was the fuel pump the problem. Now nearly 600 quid lighter in my pocket with recovery and not etc.

I realise it's too late now but, are you sure it was a faulty fuel pump? The reason i ask is because if the tank is so low it drains, then you open up the pressurised system to top up with a gallon from the can, you lose all the primed pressure and it will refuse to build that pressure up again. I've had this happen on a few cars over the years, cougar included needed two jerry cans full before the pressure would kick up. Also my sisters old MG ZR did the same after i changed her fuel filter when the guage was deep into the red.
