Hi guys, haven't posted here in a while...

My Cougar currently has a non-heated windscreen but I understand the wiring is already in place for a heated one so all I'd need to do is get the switch assembly and a relay.

The current switch assembly I've got in the car only has the alarm light/TC/rear heated screen only - in other words I am missing the switch for the front heated windscreen.

Does anyone know a good place to buy the one I need that would be willing to ship to the UK (or anyone in the UK that has one for sale)? This is one I found on eBay, but I don't know whether that's a good price or not (will phone up my local Ford dealer on monday for a price on that part number [XS8Z2C418BA]):

Thanks. :)

There have been quite a few crop up on eBay recently with the front heated screen switch for pennies, the one you linked to is expensive, I may even have one in the shed but won't be able to look for you until the morning, I will look and let you know on here tomorrow, if not then i am sure someone like Skunny will have one, also you need the large grey relay which i also have somewhere, this goes in the fuse box in the engine bay..

Edit: not to mention you will need the heated screen fitted..

Thanks guys. I couldn't find any on eBay from the UK but saw that one (and there was another one as well) in the USA only.

Is there a how-to guide on converting from standard to heated screen BTW?

Not sure about a how to, you need to have the screen changed if it was not fitted with a heated screen, then fit the relay and the switch, most people wait till their screen breaks and then get it changed on the insurance paying the excess fee normally around £50...

Yeah mine is the original 13/14 year old windscreen, it's very very scratched and has a few chips etc. so could do with replacement.

Well when the stone (Hammer) on the motorway flies up and smashes the screen, ask for the heated one when it's replaced... :) fit the switches and the relay and your in business..

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but why do the heated screens fail ? Mine only works in a narrow strip like most peoples I guess.
Do the elements fail or is it contacts ??
Cheers

You can try cleaning/re-doing the contacts at the bottom of both sides of the screen but it's more than likely it's the elements that have failed.

One other question - I know I need a 'grey' relay, but is there a part number for it? I had a look in the Cougar handbook and there didn't seem to be any information on this apart from what was already said in this thread.

Hello mate,
Sorry i completely forgot about the switch, I have one here, i did start to dig it out but got side tracked, I also have the relay too, if you give me a couple of days i will gig them out and let you know.. I have made a note for them so i don't forget.. (y)

Got my switch in the post this morning thanks to Alan (Pid_16v):

Just need to sort a relay out and a new windscreen! :)

Sweet! :D

Now I just need to get a new windscreen. I know I'm to specify a heated one when I get it, but is there any tell tale signs come installation time that the one they are about to fit is indeed heated - i.e. connectors or something like that?

Sorry if I'm sounding a bit dense... Never had to sort something like this before!

A heated windscreen will have a small multiplug hanging off either side, these connect to two corresponding plugs in the a-pillars (all Cougars have them but you'll not see them until your windscreen comes out). Also, heated screens have lots of extremely fine wires embedded inside the glass laminate, running vertically.

Yes the heated screen will have very tiny copper wires running through the screen if you look really really close up, also the connectors on the side.. (y)

Edit: Rich beat me to it... ;)

Thanks guys I shall remember to check once it's getting installed.

I love this forum, full of genuinely nice and helpful people. I wish all forums could be like this one! :(

More of a group of friends now, as not everyone who comes on here owns a cougar now, but still come on to help and keep in contact.. (y) one of the reasons i have kept my cougar for so long with so many problems...
