Bad Influences....

I'd love to say an XKR which is what started the notion on Sunday which led to a purchase, but to cut a long story short we've settled on a 54 plate X-Type Spirit. It's the 194bhp 2.5 V6 with 4 wheel drive and 5-spd auto with Jag's J Gate shifter. The Spirit was a limited edition (450 I think?) based on the SE spec but with the Jaguar Sport Collection bodykit fitted, big exhaust tips and black mesh front grilles.

It's Jaguar Racing Green with cream leather interior.

It's got 8 way electric seats, cruise control, climate control blah blah blah.

It's undeniably old-manish but it's the right car for me. Next on the list is a house in the country instead of a housing estate!

I had a sit in the XF while I was in the dealer's showroom. Drooooooooool. That's next on the list! And an XKR.

I was gonna say, 'Insert old man joke' here but u beat me to it!! ;)

 Come on, I've already got a 600 series Rover

The TV advert had Chris Issak's "Wicked Game" and a pretty young lady practicing for a wet T-shirt competition dancing beside the road in the rain :p

I thought the XF ad with Deep Purple's "Hush" was good too though :)

Nice one Jamie. :D
Will you be taking it for a long run south soon? :ihih:
Did you trade-in the Mazda or Rover ?

Did you know that this car falls into the highest VED tax band rating (244g/km)? Road tax will be ?ú430 in a couple of years. :yikes:

Tax - yeah we're just going to put a standing order into a car expenses account every month for that. :frown2:

My dad wants to take his g/f's Almera due to cheapness on fuel, but having said that he's really excited too and will be seeing the Jag this weekend. He might change his mind.

IMO it's the right car for the trip (y)

It hasn't got any ;)

They changed slightly in mid-2004 and so my side repeaters are in clear lenses which form the front of the bumper strips running down the doors :)

On the 2008 model they've made these bits chrome badge thingies instead and put the side repeaters in the mirror housings instead.

Here are the pics from the dealer's website. I have to admit I didn't look twice at them and went in to look at something else, but this looked really nice in the flesh :)

I want to get the front valence to finish off the bodykit, fit xenon headlights, and perhaps change the wood trims for a nicer wood, and also capture the centre console in the same exercise. It's all readily available stuff :D

It's absolutely unmarked and comes with a Jaguar warranty, service, new MOT, new tax and 4 brand new Pirelli P-Zeros :D

Nice Jag. Did you part ex the Rover?

Is your "long drive South" anything to do with RAF Fairford? If so, I'll see you there. :yesnod:

Hi Stewart, we're parting with the Mazda as it happens. The novelty has worn off a bit and whilst it's a fantastic car for the driver - it's pretty grim for the passenger.

We (my dad & I) will be at Duxford on Saturday 12th, Fairford on the Sunday 13th, then visiting a museum at Coventry on Monday if you're around? I'd like to catch up with you again :D

I shall be at Fairford on the Saturday (12th). Have you not included the RAF Museum at RAF Cosford, near Wolverhampton? Well worth a visit. Give me a call when you're in the area.

We were at Cosford a few months back ;) Super museum. And as free as f***! :D

We'll be driving over to the western part of the country (I can't remember for the life of me where we're staying!) on Saturday evening after Saturday's airshow at Duxford.

I'll PM you about up-to-date phone numbers and all that guff :D

The Jag heads have totally different valve port geometries, solid lifters, VVT on the inlet cams. It uses the big 6-branch inlet manifold like that on the ST220 and different exhaust manifolds. To fit that massive manifold under the bonnet the engine is canted so the front back points forward and the rear bank is almost upright. I think the injection system is different too. Obviously the ECU is different.

It's 194bhp and 180lb/ft torque :)

If you didn't know it was a modified Duratec you'd never guess it. Obviously without the dual inlet tract manifolds and secondaries the torque curve is very different, and it even sounds different!

Obvisouly??!!! lol i love the way u talk about things like that as if it is the same as explaining to a 5 year old why the toast shouldn't go in the DVD Player... lol :D
