Beware! Acid birch pollen cloud (paint stripper)

Now who was it that was talking about using nitromors to strip the paint from their alloys for a refurb??

My car lives outside so not a lot I can do about it. There are is a lot of talk on forums about it being usual Express/Mail scaremongering - it would be odd that this is the first time in history that this acid pollen has affected anyone. So it's acid eh? Spray the car with something alkaline and it'll be nice and neutral

Cheers for the heads up on this one. I cleaned my car 2 days ago because of this yellow film that has fallen on my car. I have now cleaned it again today because the same thing happened over night again. Good to know what it was and it is now all gone off my car for now.

As opposed to the redtops telling us about jordans latest tit job, telling us what will be on britains got talent/xfactor the forthcoming weekend or the mirror telling us how rosy it was when labour wrecked the country!:LOL::LOL:

I agree that the likelihood of this being the first time in history to be slim but paint also seems a lot softer than the old types, it certainly scratches and chips a lot easier. Ria's parents have the express and Ria read the article out last week to me, can't say that I took a lot of notice tbh.

Express Report said:
Mr Herdemertens advised car owners to spray them with specialist car paint cleaner and then take them to the car wash

Yeah, cos then instead of pollen (maybe) pulling your paint off, the car wash will do it for you.......... & what is this specialist paint cleaner then, hmm - give us a brand name you gonk.

All very well but what does it actually look like ? .... as ususal the gutter press only give half a story.

It'll just look like normal pollen - yellow furry **** all over the car. Except it's full of killer acid, a bit like acid rain used to be - 95% b******s :sleep::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Would imagine that if the cars been washed and waxed regularly it wont cause any problems if it's washed off within a couple of days.

Trust you to go all sensible on the thread, but I agree with the comment, you'll probably find a lot of company bm's and audi's down to bare metal by the end of the week, hopefully it'll carry on eating through the car and eventually dissolve the drivers!:LOL::LOL:

stupidity has been restored!:LOL::LOL::LOL:

:eek: What a horrible thing to say!! :p:p Just luring you into a false sense of security - sure I'll find something deeply offensive to post in the near future ;);):LOL:

Cougar was washed, polished and waxed before simply ford (and then lightly dusted the next morning) but I will be pressure washing the mazda again tomorrow / wednesday as this has i nice yellowy green coating which i can only assume is the dreaded pollen.

Boring reply.......just make sure your car has a good coat of wax.....simples

Oh, and I don't belive it either. It's summer. Cars always get covered in pollen.
The only real danger from the sky was when that Icelandic volcano erupted. The stuff that settled on the cats etc for weeks after contained loads of particles that would inflict minor scratches to your paintwork. Just rinse the car well before you get a wash mitt even near it. Thats why I jet rinse, snow foam, jet rinse, wash using the two bucket method (very important), and then rinse again. This is of course unless you need a dedicated tar remover or iron filling dissolver.

It's that time of year again when all the Oil Seed Rape fields are out in flower so there is going to be loads of yellow pollen flying around anyway especially with the unseaonally high, gusting winds we've been having of late.

It would be interesting to know which parts of the Country are more/less affected by this stuff.

Well it is pretty bad my neck of the woods, there are fields and fields of rape seed in our area and where I park my car everyday for work ( Cardiff Airport ) we are surrounded by them. I only washed it today and by tonight it was covered in the stuff again or what ever this stuff is TBH. So it looks like I will be out there again on Tuesday jet washing it again.

Guys, we have had lots of emails and calls about this at work. It's nothing to worry about and it's not as bad as some twits are saying. Due to the easterly winds at the moment, alot of this is coming in from Europe. Anyway, as I said, nothing really to get too worried about. If you use a decent polish and wax and regularly wash your car (if lives outside like mine), then there are no worries.
