Bringing the new C2 up to standard... *PICTURE HEAVY*

Just discovered this thread, brilliant! Apart from your wife's top what else did you use to acheive the result, as in wipes/solvent /paste etc.?

Cheers,

Jamie

Don't laugh, the wife's top was very good for cramming into hard-to-reach gaps to wipe dust out or to buff a polish or spray!

For the engine bay and interior there are some relatively inexpensive products:

Ambersil Groom - upholstery cleaner and degreaser, Halfords, ebay etc.

White Spirit - wiping stubborn oil stains or grease marks from plastic or metal trim.

Brasso - ideal for stubborn marks on paintwork under bonnet! (Essentially T-Cut in a different container.)

Back to Black - Simoniz or any similar product for plastic trim.

Car Polish - AutoGlym or any type for painted bodywork, applied and polished with wife's top (see above!).

Metal Polish - AutoGlym, AutoSol (or the ubiquitous Brasso) for the wiper arms etc.

Rhino Plastic Polish - Like T-Cut for uPVC double glazing, to get light scratches out of plastics such as expansion tank. Planning on trying on C2 headlamp when I'm feeling brave...

Turtle Wax Platinum Renovating Cockpit Shine - For interior plastic trim (and some bits under bonnet) which leaves a wet-look shine; this dulls down a little bit after a few days so it's not quite so in-yer-face! Can also wipe with a slightly damp cloth to produce less of a shine (see door trim pictures for the full-on bling!).

Think that's all for the moment...

Dont look under the car for christs sake

That's a lot of effort gone into that Mondeo and it's very pretty, but the practical man in me absolutely cannot see the point in that! Good on him if it makes him happy though.

Agreed - from a practical point of view, road dirt, rain etc. you can't really use a car and expect it to remain in this condition for very long. My present mileage in the Cougar is extremely minimal; my insurance is on a 4,000 mile limit p.a. and I never even come close to that. This is why I would entertain the idea of the underbody work, although preserving the life of the rear subframe is probably a good idea!

Was the VNR 9000 actually an option for the Cougar? I believe it would fit as a 1.5 DIN unit however the map updates ceased in 2003 so probably not a practical idea.

That's interesting (not knowing anything about Pumas) - will go through invoices and see if anything mentions a HU change. Radio bit works fine, haven't had a CD in it yet.

VNR 9000 sits slightly proud of the fascia receess, whether the recess could be filed away to get it to sit right?
It is a nice looking unit.
As for 2003 maps, that doesn't bother me, as roads haven't changed THAT much since (??)

I could believe that. Gill's X-Type was built in late 2005 and the maps for it's satnav are so far out of date that they're pretty much useless. Ok, roads like the M1 are still in the same place but junctions get revised often so if you don't already know where you're going then the satnav will just get your lost. I was going to get the latest DVD for it but I never actually use sat nav so it's never been a high priority.

I got a warning on my tom tom today to say its last update was 17 months ago and did i know that in that time 18 per cent of the UK road network would have changed.

We've had our little Garmin for going on 4 years and never updated the maps yet! I think we have to soon, as it does get confused every so often. For the most part though, it's still fairly accurate, certainly enough so to be of use.

I got fed up with Tom Tom maps being out of date on my old phone. In fact the last version I bought was pretty much out of date as soon as I bought it. This was just as the post codes had changed in our area so very annoying. Only option was to pay for an upgrade.
That's why I have an Andriod phone now. Google Navigation is very good considering it's free.

Never tried that one, will have to give it a go. I'm using CoPilot on my Android phone and it does the trick for me - even comes with free Speed Camera updates (y)

Just had a look at CoPilot Live on the market. Looks pretty good. The lane assist feature looks good. That's one thing that's been lacking in previous sat navs I've had. It's not free though.
