Anyway... back to my thread! (see above)
Have now done a basic exterior clean but only had a couple of days in which to do it before a trip down south for some work. In the meantime I taxed the car and found then that it wouldn't start...

No major issues other than a jump from the wife's Astra. Shakedown run was fine and no problems on the trip to Hertfordshire, although I did notice some noise that shouldn't have been there. It wasn't road noise and I haven't been able to duplicate the conditions every time. Some noise from power steering under lock but that wasn't what I perceived when driving. More on that as I try to find out more; MoT in August so will mention it then.
The exterior was generally clean but had copious stonechips on the bonnet - have touched in but ideally the front third (at least) needs a blow over. Likewise the sills are heavily chipped, even in the stonechip paint!

Some paint appears missing below the n/s front wing where it turns flat to become the underside of the car, where the jacking point seems to be. This is a dark colour and may or may not be corrosion; will need time to get car on axle stands and have a closer look.
Given the amount of remedial work, just covering the stonechips took ages and so it was late in the day when I started with the pictures, hence lack of light - apologies for quality. Will do better ones when I do the next clean.
The front corner at least was in sunlight for the next ones:
The rear lights felt like sandpaper so a quick run-over with T-cut and Meguiars solved that:
And never before have I had to spend so much time with the fuel filler - the silver paintwork inside was invisible (dirt), and there was also debris encrusted in the horizontal sections of the hinge. Ended up taking the flap off entirely to clean the surrounding area properly.
CAR VALETING
As I've mentioned to tiff, I'm looking at setting up a valeting business, based in south Lincolnshire. I've done the website and it only needs uploading and checking. There may well be a mobile service but this will be extremely limited in its coverage to begin with until I can assess what demand there is.
The services and prices will be on the website but I can tell you about a couple of the discount schemes I shall be running:
Apart from an introductory 20% off during August and September, to encourage take-up, there will be a standard 15% discount for anyone with a Cougar and to members of this forum (who can obviously prove that they are!), a substantial 30% off whatever service(s) they choose.
For anyone interested, there will be an option for an engine bay clean and dress - you've seen the proof of this in the pictures earlier in this thread.
I shall not advertise directly of course - I'm sure that's in the rules! - but I will tell you the name of this business once I have everything set up and established.
