Cougar spotted.. sort of

It seems that the people over on that site really did not like the new edge styling Ford have got. So I guess they really do not like anything that Ford make right now as well seen as every car since the Cougar came out has got new edge design in them all.
What a plank........... Just because the car did not sell millions does not mean that it is a rubbish car. There was one problem with the Cougar back then, and it was price. No one in there right mind was going to part with £22K back then for a Ford.

Written by an idiot who clearly has never driven a Cougar - and I'm guessing has a pathological hatred of anything Ford. Probably worships at the alter of German cars with their fresh designs and innovative interiors

You just got to look at the current Ford line up of cars and you can see that there is not a bad one out there right now ( maybe the new KA is not that clever ) but I really do feel that the Cougar helped all this with it's styling.
If I was in for a brand new car I would be looking at the current crop of cars from Ford with much interest, the Focus RS would be top of the pile for me for sure right now.

True look at the RS500, sold out within a week or so or something silly, I liked the ones with red seats, however it turns out only TWO had that option in the UK! gonna be worth a mint to the owners in the future

You will find most of these cars will end up in private collections and never be driven. Your normal Jo public would never spend £34K on a focus + these will become very collectable in the future.

Well i have managed to get myself banned from that forum after having an informed discussion with what turned out to be one of the MODS who was slating several cars the cougar included but not having driven any, also found out he drove a pug106 think my comment that followed finalised my ban

Surely if the Cougar is just a pretty body put on a Mondeo, then putting any other form of body on a Cougar is, in actual fact, just putting another body on a Mondeo

The new Scirocco is basically a boring Golf in a dress so anyone who slates the cat and lusts after a Scirocco is an idiot!

Isn't one of the new jags built on a Mondeo platform? It's nothing new, all manufacturers have done this for decades, Cortina/Capri is a prime example, so what gets slated next for not being all it seems

Sorry, but I just take everything that "Pis-Take Heads" (you like what I did there? lol) with a pinch of salt. If they can slate a car they have a) Never driven and b) Know F'all about, then let them get on with it. We all know and love our Cougs and most of us get lots of admiring glances (or is that just coz I'm driving? lol) whilst out and about in the Coug. I don't care how much other people slate our cars, I will always love mine!!

55K for a body of a veyron?! what's the point?

I'd rather spend 55K on:
BMW M coupe
TVR Cerbera
Some 4x4
And start building a Ultima GTR.

Or you could put a body on the cougar, and then realise your car wont go any faster than 150.

And the comment about putting the body on a mondeo - agreed!

Everybody is entiled to their opinion, it doesn't make them right, whoever smarmed that dogsh** hatchet job about the cougar on the www probably has hairy palms as he's never seen a woman naked except on his computer screen. It'd be a weedy specimen that hides behind his keyboard and wouldn't look you in the eye if you met him. We are all fully aware of our cars' strengths and weaknesses, much to our cost at times, but this twat is no doubt clueless about the car. Frankly, I don't think the person is worth having a thread dedicated to them but while it's here, for the record, I'd like to kick him in his B******s too but since they've probably not even dropped yet, I may have a long wait!

As one of the less appealing results of Ford's 'New Edge' design philosophy of the late 90s,

Edge design has found its way onto MGs, Audis, BMWs, Hyundais...Mostly courtesy of Peter Stevens. So what - the writer hates the looks of the Audi A5 as well? The BMW 3-series coupe?

If you want to call the Cougar a "Mk1 Mondeo in a skirt" then fine. To some degree I would agree with you, but it's more than that so let's play nicely, shall we?

It's a big Grand Tourer based on a proven platform whose owners are largely enthusiastic about. It can be kept on the road with (most of) the same parts and tools as its lowly cousin. What's not to like?

But let's look at the real problem here. The article is about a Cougar bodied with a Veyron-esque shell. From what I can see it's convincing visually, but probably falls short in vocals and certainly isn't as fast. But if you want to criticize that, you have to criticize anyone who turned a Mk1 MR2 into a Testarossa. Anyone who turned a Peugeot 407 Coupe into a Ferrari Modena.

And I don't know about you, but I celebrate the creativity of the people that have done so. "But...it's not a Ferrari!" is fine and you can take the mick if you want, but respect the engineering. Respect it knowing that as a motoring journalist, your skills are limited to getting a Seat sideways on a greasy track.

Sorry for the rant - I no longer own a custom/modified car, (and have never owned a supercar copy) but I know how much goes into creating and maintaining one.
