Cougar worth?

I know mate...but the only uk cougar proven over 300bhp is thundercat....and I haven't seen it for two months with Pete away earning n stuff lol

320bhp was off another car! Or downloaded off Google images. That 2.5 Duratec engine isn't rebored, turbo'd or otherwise. I'll bet a tenner it's a stock lump, mate with some ST bits, a SS exhaust and headers at a push. 320 ponies my chocolate salty balls! Still as a none runner, no t&t and that its been stood 3 years and the rust that could have accumulated in places you can't see like the valves, piston chambers, piston pots etc makes it a very big gamble!

That's what I meant about taking a punt if you have the time and patience. But if its owner thinks it's got 320 brake and drove it like it did before putting it away wet...? I'm not so sure.

But if it's properly sound in the body (which is by no means certain. Three years on its 'arris?) it might be worth it even if it needs a new donk. I'll assume Si knows what he's doing when he checks it out though. :p

As an absolute minimum you'll need a complete fluid flush and replacement, new battery and new discs, pads and handbrake cables. It's highly likely that it'll need spark plugs, HT leads, new brake calipers all round, new wishbones and anti-roll bar droplinks etc as everything rubber will be knackered. It'll most likely have lost all it's aircon gas, suffered corrosion internally in the body (cars are negative earthed to provide plenty electrons to dissuade the steel from giving up it's own to oxygen molecules and turning all red-brown and crumbly) as well as corrosion in the wiring. Cars really, really, really don't like being dumped outside for long periods of time. And there's no way that engine is producing anything in that ballpark. My advice would be 5hat if you're interested in a Cougar, attend a club meet soon and get a ride/drive in one and see what you think, then save yourself an absolute heap of money by buying a very well cared for running example from someone in this club. Don't be tempted to take on an accident damaged one either unless that's your profession. Repairs that don't look hideous cost more than you could buy a nice example of the car for. Save money buy paying a bit more initially. Cheap ones are absolutely always cheap because it would cost a fortune to get them to a condition that would support a normal asking price.

The guy has had a stroke who I was talking too and greeted me at the door topless... He has really hair nipples.

Si, if it checks out tomorrow and the guy was wrong and the owner dosen't make silly claims and is willing to sell it are you free this saturday to have a look at it?
You know a lot more about what goes wrong with these beasts than me, all I know is change the water pump for a metal one if not already done.

I'll bring some ramps or a jack? :D

I am not at work this weekend..but i am taing the kids out....so not sure on my availability.

You won't need ramps to know pretty damn quick if its a lemon or not.

TBH I reckon you'd be a fool to go for this car unless you have a large pool of cash to draw from and are taking on it purely for a pass-time. If you want to buy a Cougar and drive it, buy one that's running. If you don't know much about cars then I literally cannot stress enough how much a car deteriorates when it's not driven. 3 Years is a long time to sit seizing up.

Run a mile if you have any sense. I'm only thinking of your best interests!

Your all right, I knew it before I asked that it would be too much trouble.
If I win the lottery then maybe ;)

Boo. Still meeting the guy that owns it though, just to see what he says about his parents 320bhp stake.

Tony(Lazybones) posted this in the ebay section:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Coug...mobiles_UK&hash=item2322c8ce0d#ht_1091wt_1271

There is, as Tony points out, a few discrepancies between the vehicle as photographed and the description but it looks like quite a tidy, standard V6 with X pack. For less than £700 you have a goer with T&T.

And the license plate is covered, meaning that you can't HPI it before going to see it, (unless it's visible in another picture in their "showroom", but I can't be bothered to look).

I'm not saying that there's anything dodgy with the dealer, ("body kit"? LOL) but that just sets off alarm bells. A fair-ish price, but I'll pass.
