cougar1 or cougar2.

Can you swap the bumper without swapping to the older lights too?

I can't see why not, it's probably a good idea too, the general pubic tend to spit on Cougar 2's due to the hideous look of that front bumper, ask Ginja (matt) he has to jetwash his every day just to get the spit off of it.:LOL::LOL:

The reason I asked was that I thought I'd read somewhere that it left a gap somewhere to use Cx lights with Cy bumper, but I've just had another look round the forum and I may have misinterpreted something there. Also I mentioned Cx/Cy as I can't remember which way round it was :)

As far as I remember it takes a little work to get the cougar 2 headlamps to go in a Cougar one but I can't remember anything about the bumper being a problem.

I think you might be referring to the headlights; as if you swap C2 lights into a C1 there will be a gap at each end of the grille unless you also add a C2 grille.

That'll be it! I think I got the impression there was a gap between the lights and the bumper rather than the grille. Thanks for clarifying.

As an aside, I bet you would all still love the Cougar if it had looked like the C2 when it was first released :)

If I read it properly he has a C2 but wants the C1 bumper, maybe he likes having fog lights that are about as usefull as a candle in a snow storm (i.e. C1 fogs) I maybe wrong ;)

No, I think that he's taking the ugly part from the C2 to improve the looks of the car.

Not me mate, I think that the facelift bumper is awful, it doesn't tie in with the rest of the car, the square foglamps and grille look out of place, hence the common term "The ugly" when referring to the Cougar 2

Who actually uses their fog lights anyhow ?
When ever it is really foggy ( about 2 days in the whole year ) I find it better to just use sidelights as the main lights and fog lights just dazzle you and you can not see anything.

Remind me not to be on the road when your driving in fog then  if it is very foggy I have side, dipped and front and rear fog lights on (thanks to the design of the switch you have to have the front ones on anyway before the rear's) you can use the front fogs in heavy rain and snow too, its only the rear ones that are for use in fog. Anyway this is off topic.

You started it.

Well yeah, but no but yeah! ....we were originaly going on about which was better the C1 or c2 and I was saying C1 foglights are very dim compared to the C2 ones. :) :p
I did buy a C1 once (well I put a £100 deposit on one) it was Black if I recal, however at the time I realised I didn't have the money to buy it so had the deposit back, so in fact I do like both types....just think the C2 is better ;)

I'm with Matt on this. How the hell is anyone going to see you coming in the fog if you've only got the poxy side lights on?
In fog you should at least have dipped beam lights on, purely so that others can see you.

Back on topic, C2 front fogs actually work.

All I am saying is that fog lights are useless in fog, they just cause dazzle. When ever I see people driving with them on there is no fog to be seen anywhere. I think most people who drive with the front ones on are just doing it to show off.
The rear ones do make a difference I will agree there, if anything, I would drive on sidelights with the fogs on, that way the dazzle is not so much in your face as the lights are closer to the ground and light is not thrown back at you so bad.

Next time it is foggy, go to a quite road with no other trafic around and try it out, you will see what I am on about straight away.

I can see both sides of this debate. As Peter rightly says, using dipped beam in a real 'pea-souper' can actually have the effect of the light relecting off the fog and dazzling the driver. Fog lights are as much to be seen as to see with though, and putting your fog lights on in foggy conditions is surely wise for that reason. Regarding the daft little chavs (in the main, although I've seen grown men in people carriers doing the same thing) who drive around with their foglights and sidelights on but dipped beam off, in perfectly clear conditions, they should be dragged out of their fartbox Saxos and Clios and slapped. It doesn't look 'cool', nobody's impressed, they just look complete gentlemen's appendages and annoy everyone else.

The C1 side lights are barely visible on a clear day, that's why you need dipped beam on in fog. The're not for you to see the road, they're so that other drivers can see you. Check the highway code.

I agree with what you are saying, but you could have a search light strapped to your car roof and still see nothing up ahead. All I was pointing out is that the difference between both C1 & C2 fog lights is not really relevant as in ready bad fog both are useless in seeing where you are going.
I do agree other drivers can see you with all your lights on and it is unwise to just run on sidelights and fogs in those conditions, but when ever I am traveling say though country lanes when it is foggy I personally find it better to just run with sidelights and fogs as you can see where you are going better. Drivers coming towards you can still see you.

Front foglights light up the road, end of. To a greater or lesser degree, that's what they do, if they are angled upwards, they're no better than dipped beam, correctly angled, they light a small part of the road in front of you but dipped beam should also be on to give other road users the opportunity to see you coming.

As for the beauty (C1) vs The Beast (C2), I'm plumping for the beauty.(y)
