well off to mij to have exhaust sorted on car as it has come away from front end for a second time and on inspection the weld has fallen off ?
another 140 mile round trip 70 of wich the cougar will sound like a race car and 17mph lets hope they sort it and on the way home back to around 30mph (y)

well we will see if they can sort it as i had cat as well and they broke the flang on front pipe and its there flang wich has come apart but no sign of weld at all but they told me if i had work done else were they would not cover system

I was so close to buying a MIJ system, but I've read far too many bad reviews now. I think I'll probably just end up going for the same Mongoose system I had before.

Same here Rich, it was purely distance v cost and possible mainainence that made me decide to pay over the odds at the time and stay local. £500 i paid for my custom tuned cat back system, and never had any issues, but if i did, i know i only have to travel 5 miles to get it sorted. I did attend the mij gb a couple of years ago and had a ss sports cat fitted at a heavily discounted rate :). That too has been ok, no problems at all. The outer box is red rust but this is completely normal. Just because it's SS doesn't mean it won't rust, there is iron in the ss alloy so with all that heat and the elements, how would you expect it to stay shiney? Get the brillo out!

Not had any issues with my MIJ exhaust which i had done in 2009, still going strong, need to polish up the tailpipes as they are a tad pitted but thats the only issue (y)

Same here apart from the rubber's failing the exhaust has been great and its been on the car since 2008.
With regards to the standard system I found that was very good, the only reason I got a SS replacement was because it was too quiet (oh and I wanted the twin outlet look)

I just left my original ford one on and i dont get any problems :p:p:p

Well thats fine until it rusts and falls apart

I've still got the original system on my 12 year old car and it's showing no signs of dying anytime soon. I had it up on a ramp a few months back to Waxoyl the rear subframe and the exhaust looked remarkably solid and rust free. I've always said that I won't replace the exhaust until it actually needs it, but it seems I'll be old and grey before that happens!

It does seem to be the people who've had MIJ exhausts more recently that are having the problems and those who had them a good while back who have ended up with a quality product. This says to me that, somewhere along the line, there has to have been a change at MIJ themselves, be it staff, materials or manufacturing processes. There's too many of the recent exhausts throwing up problems for them to 'one-offs'.

Yeah could be a new addition to the team or just cheap SS maybe? Rich B had his Mij exhaust fitted before me in 2007 I think and I don't think he's had a problem.
The garage I go to was good for a time and then just slacked off so I went elsewhere, was just down to bad managment and crap staff, once my uncle and the original good mechanic bought him out the garage has been sound, must be a similar problem with Mij

That's possible. You'd like to think though, that a garage worth it's salt would be honest about what they could or couldn't achieve in a given timeframe to the proper standard. I'm sure people would rather the fitting session had been run over two days (even two Saturdays a week apart, if Sunday is a no-go for MIJ) if MIJ had said they needed this time to do the work properly. If they've just seen the £ signs and pulled as many people in the door as they could then rushed the work to suit, then I definitely don't want them working on my car.

Yup, gotta agree with Paul, not had any issues with mine either apart from the rubbers, but that is now all sorted. Similar to Paul, just a bit of surface rust on the tail pipes, but a bit of Meguiars metal polish and they are back to looking bling. (y)

Or could it be that on the group buy there was quite a few cars to do in 1 day so maybe quality suffered a little in the rush to finish all the cars in the time they had.

Mine was the last to be done during the group buy and it has been perfect, never a problem and the tailpipes are as good as the day they were fitted
