Front damper differences

Occassionally I wonder if I have some sort of disorder which detaches me from other humans. I really struggle to be offended by that sort of thing, although social conventions suggest that I probably should.

I'll just stay in my own merry wee world keeping myself company

Front struts and lowering springs

Hi, could someone please share what aftermarket struts are you using with lowering springs? Brand of struts, and springs please. I think that mine Monroe reflex struts raised front end a little...
Thanks for help!

honestly, i don't see the point in sharing the information - from experience, you will pretty much do what you think is best anyway - despite advice to the contrary.

Did you fit the Mondeo struts or Cougar ones (as advised)?

In for a penny................

-30mm Eibach front and rear springs and shock absorbers, and yes it's the springs that govern the height. :music: Havn't we been here before??? Deja-vue?

jeeesss this guy dont give up does he!!

just get a kit of matched dampers and springs for whatever engined cougar you have...then you'll know there right.
mixing old suspension with new will have strange affects such as ride hight
as for it sitting higher.
im sure any 14year old set of tired springs will be lower than a nice new set.

I have monroe reflex e4942 in the front and e4943 in the rear with apex lowering springs, also tried spax springs - the front is still jacked up compared to the rear which is perfeclty lowered :(

The front of the Cougar sits higher above the wheels than the back does, that's just how it is, if you lower by the same amount front and rear then this won't change. If you want to bring the front down more than the rear then you need springs with a bigger drop on the front than the rear. A set with -40mm front and -20mm rear would probably do it.

All i asked is a brand of what you are using, i understand that front is higher in stock... sunnycougar, if you have a problem with me, just ignore, i didnt asked you anything, so you can just leave this thread, thanks
yes i need frint to be lower, i guess i will have to cut one coil, and modify strut piston a bit, i will shorten it 2 inches and rethread it, so i wont bottom out them and kill them in one season

or leave standards on rear and fit lower on front

From your post quoted below, you appeared to be unhappy that the front of your Cougar was still higher than the rear, despite having tried two different brands of springs. I merely offered a suggestion to help you achieve your aim. You know, like trying to help out a fellow Cougar owner? It's kind of what we do around here. However, your response would suggest this is wholly unwelcome and I apologise unreservedly for having the cheek and temerity to post up without first gaining your express permission and approval. Next time I won't bother.

Noo, the rear is sooo good right now, i will not touch it... Just want to ask you guys:
did you checked how much travel is there in the lowered front end with lowering springs? I was shocked that when i dropped shocks without dustcovers - i saw that it almost lies on the bumpstops, its nonsesnce, this is because i think that something is wrong with my shocks... If i want to go a little lower i have to cut the bumpstops in half... I want the gap between fender and tire to be "one finger". That why i also considering modifying pistons of the shocks - shortening by 2 inches or so, because now my shocks basically have no travel... And by shortening them, they will remain in their facorty travel specifications, and should no die. Did you guys ran into this issue?

p.s sorry if i insulted someone, really :(

At the risk if having my head bitten off again, cutting coils off your springs is A Bad Idea. If you need the springs to be shorter... buy shorter springs! You also don't need to modify the strut. As mentioned a few times already elsewhere in the thread(s) you've started on this subject, the strut does not dictate the ride height, the spring length does.

With all the respect, please do a research in that im talking about, you are a bit off toppic. Cutting springs when you know what you are doing is OK. There are 3 dead coils in the top, they only determine the height they do not impact anything else. Regarding strut piston lenght also please do a research on this, i know this will not lower, but this will prolong the life of the strut... I dont want to write a lot, you will find all the info on the net if you want. Thanks for understanding

I give up, I don't know why you come on here and ask for people's opinions and advice then get all precious when they're provided. Do whatever you're going to do and good luck.
