Little update, I have my boy back and I am going to take him for a 2nd opinion before doing anything..... going on a few things and talking to the mechanic about what you guys said on here I hope he didn't put the pump on and not check the plate as when he first fixed it I used it for a week and did over 400 miles with no problem at all.....if the HG had gone, wouldn't this of gone when it originally blown up!? ummm I don't know what to do for the best really, my mechanic (he works from his house and uses a mates garage for bigger jobs) well his mate just happened to have a cougar laying around and is getting me a price for that engine and putting it in....I hope they are not working together to get a few quid out of me!! so still no further on really, going to get him in Tue/Wed for a recommended mechanic to take a wee look :)

no that's what im thinking, I personally think he has fooked it up somehow...... oh well, im running around in a Ford Probe at the moment lol so do have time to get it sorted

if you did 400 miles with no issues AFTER the pump change then i very much doubt its head gaskets ,if they were gona go they would have done so on the initial overheat...are you able to drive it then..how does it behave? and does it now overheat when at speed or at idle?..if you just leave it idling does it overheat..or is it just when at speed.
the smell you said about in the expansion tank could have been just burnt antifreeze...it really does smell like fumes when it burns..
id still wana check that pump and the stat again..im just not convinced its hg if it runs ok and just overheats.
never had the chance to own a probe but lovely looking car and a real classic now.

starts first time and drives perfect!!! it does overheat quickly and the fan kicks in within 5mins on the road so something not right but I don't think the HG is gone.... I think my mechanics mate wants my car personally and I was oh so very close to giving it to him for scrap value!!

Sounds like someone is trying to pull the wool over someone's eyes.

I'd certainly be questioning the morals and motives of the person that's advised you. I'd also be seeking a second opinion on all their advice. Go to an actual garage for advice and not a guy on his drive. Unless he's a proper Cougar nut from this here nut house ;)

where abouts are you all? Im in Corby Northants, I don't want to be driving him too far, don't want to cause more problems ..... and I will take some pics...... but I don't think he is as well looked after as he should be :/ lol

Tracey pointed out that you might feel uncomfortable having a bunch of guys turning up and getting all up in your face.

So she has offered to come and see your car on her own.

She's an ex-Ford bod and knows the Cougar/Mondeo well, so I know that she can help. If that works for you, she's here. Just say.
