hey guys

OP is a new member. Despite being a Ford bod, he may not know the V6 Duratec very well - after all, he worked for them long after it was deprecated.

It might be that someone sold him a car with performance metrics that it's not capable of. It might also be that he got a silly performance V6 Cougar using modifications that we haven't even thought of.

All I'm saying is that it's good to be cynical, but please give him a chance. We've got a lot of experience here, but I think it's best to keep an open mind.

And if I'm wrong, that's fine too. But I'd rather make a friend than alienate a stranger.

I am not looking to put him off at all, quite the opposite. I am genuinely interested in hearing how this increase has been achieved on a stock engine. As you have said, he might be able to bring something new and unheard of before to the table, to which a few other people running the V6 might be interested in.
To gain 75BHP from a 170BHP engine is a huge increase in power, I for one would like to know how it can be done just out of interest, and it might be also helpful if I ever wanted to go for even more power from my own engine in the future.

You think that would be enough to get 75BHP over the stock 170BHP ?
It just seems to me that is a massive increase.
coupled with a remap to increase air fuel mix and dial back the bottom end torque level yes that would be doable with said enhancements to the stock engine, if I recollect correctly Damien the founder of UKCougar was not far from that figure with his Cougar which now is under the care of Will Leaper (y)

Well we will see what the op has done then. I look forward to it.
I always thought Damien's one was a full on 3 litre conversion ?

Yes, check out thread 'Damian's old Cougar, great info on there about full spec of engine etc.
Just checked it and we can't view pictures of engine, hope we haven't lost these after recent problems (but thanks to work done on restoring the site to date).
I started the 'beast' up recently, what a sound!
Still hoping to get it back on the road for this season, I drove it last year for a while and the engine is awesome, big HP!
Paul, you must come over and check it out !
cheers,
Wil

Hmmm...very interested in this thread, 245bhp! I would be pleased if I could get mine just up to 200bhp! I know I have the ST200 UIM to fit and TB, but will need to purchase the Viper Induction kit, as don't want a standard ST200 air box. I plan to get some work done to her this year...or at least that is the plan.

PS. Welcome aboard Mark.

hello every1 sorry been to busy to reply cougar going for clean look on the front, no sunstrip, led fog lights. my mate got mixed up its not 245BHP its 220BHP, he wants to try and bore it out more now. he made a honest mistake looked at wrong dyno sheet. Sorry to disappoint but he has said its easy enough to do. but requires the 3 litre st220 engine as a base. will get it sorted for combe :)

Yes I agree, 220 BHP from a standard lump is quite some going. It is a shame he did make a mistake as I was really looking forward to hearing all about it. You never know I might see you at Combe if I can make it.

Most of the usual suspects will be there as it is a great event hosted by Andy and Karen. I would put it up there as the best weekend you can do with this club. They really do look after you very well.
