How well do Cougars cope with the snow?

Luckily both my current cars benefit from the same thing which Jag obtained under Ford ownership. I wouldn't be without them now.

Here here. Even our little Fiesta has one, it seems to be something Ford put on virtually every car now and they're an absolute Godsend in this weather. Every morning I see my neighbours shivering away whilst scraping at their windscreens with credit cards and CD cases or pouring kettles over their cars , whilst all I have to do it stroll out, press a button on each dashboard and two minutes later they're both clear.

I've really enjoyed driving the Cougar in the snow I've found it really easy and I only got stuck once which was my fault for getting my wheels in a dip in my drive just after the thickest of the snow had come.

I guess it's like everyone else said though, a big factor is how you drive, my wife has been using our Celica and has been fine too.

Got a guy lives down our road drives a BMW 540i, i'm constantly looking outside when he go's by the house because the road is a little slippy and you hear this guy gunning his engine to maintaine grip, he drives too fast down the road anyway:cautious:. I remember following a BMW in the snow a couple of years back, we were only doing 30mph if that and the guy couldn't keep it in a straight line, fish-tailing all over the place, in comparison the Cougar lets you know when its going to slide, its almost like a slight 4 wheel drift and as long as you just take your foot of the loud pedal and don't stomp it on the brake your gonna be ok.

Our road is deadly near the end by the main road, the ice builds up, people go to stop (after going to quick down the road) and can't stop, many a time i've had the ABS kick in scrabling for grip, and god help my sister in her little Fiesta it ain't got any driver aids, she nearly sailed right into the main road.:stop:

I have found the best way to drive in the realy deep snow is to turn the traction control off, as someone has said about the Astra, you lose all power, so no movement, just keep the car in a low gear or in 2nd (or even 3rd in the V6) when pulling away and you should be fine.
Been out in mine today, had ice build up on the INSIDE of the windscreen, and i'd only used it Sunday morning (think it went down to -8 last night) gonna be the same tomorrow i think, car was creaking like an old boat I reckon because the strut-braces are doing their job correctly and not letting the body flex, but the metal being cold was having a hard time playing ball

That's one thing I hate about Coupes... the pillarless doors always seem to leak so you get extra ice on the inside!

Funnily enough, we've not even really had much snow where I live. 3 miles up the road had some snow yesterday though so it's getting closer :p

Lucky today, didn't leave the house till about 1:30pm and the sun (yes remember that?) defrosted the car for me, well except the rear screen (i swear the laminate is failing in that one) that takes an age to defrost/demist unless you stick the rear screen heater on and then it still takes ages to demist properly.
Even had ice form on the instrument glass, rear view mirror and my alloy gear knob yesterday

I have no idea what my Coug is like in the snow...as I don't drive her in the winter...that's what the Mondy is for lol!!!

Firstly, you don't get much snow anyway Tim, but secondly, and more importantly, you're missing out on soooooo much fun. :p

I'll second that Steve!. Three guys trying to shove a beemer up the hill near work they gave up and reversed back on to main road ,they advised me not to bother I drove straight past and never spun a wheel their face in the rear view was apicture.

im happy when it snows - wife has done nothing but look through the window since it started snowing ----- suppose i better let her in :LOL::LOL:

Ah, yes Steve, be as that maybe, but the road I live on has a 45 degree slope down to the bottom of the road and at the bottom it swings to the right. At the bottom we get sheet ice, to which last year I lost my Avensis and stuffed it into the kerb as I couldn't do anything about it, the car was just out of control. So, I'd rather the Coug stay in one piece on my drive until the better weather makes a return. If I stuff the Mondy, well...I stuff it...it'll get written off and I'll just go buy another. But true, we don't get a lot of snow down here thank god! but we do get a lot of black ice on these back country roads where I live.

I'm going to get quite frustrated if I buy my Cougar but the weather won't allow me to drive it properly! I'll definitely not risk it if I don't have to... people park all over the sides of the road here and opposite to eachother... no common sense!

It's a front wheel driven, long car with fairly wide tyres so requires patience to move around on ice and snow. I'm also sure many people that are lowered will have heard a few scraping sounds lately.

we had really heavy snow here on friday and the cougar made it in to work (20 miles away) no problem!!
however, the inside of the car is now compleatly frozen due to the matrix flush not working!! so ive been forced to abandon it and use the mrs picasso!!

No, except when I ran over that pedestrian ;) no seriously I think the cars great in the snow, it drifts the back end out nicely on traffic islands but is easily checked, and gets good traction (even if you do have to switch the traction control OFF a few times) unlike a certain German manufacturers vehicles ;)
I would be slightly worried if my car was sporting a bodykit though....it would look hideous ....door, coat...see ya ;)
