I can see clearly now......

The running lamps fit behind the triangular reflector on the wing end of the lamp unit and match the ones in the US rear-lamp units. They are plugged with a twist-fit grey bung on European C2 units.

So can you mod a C1 twist fit or has it got to be a C2 one to make it happen ?

Well I managed to get a set of bulb holders from an 02 plate Mondeo and they fit perfect. Maybe this headlight mod might happen faster than I planned now seen as it does look really easy to do and given how nice Andy's car looks with them on.

That looks the absolute dog's danglies, Andy. Just makes me want some even more.

Peter, it is quite straightforward but I wouldn't mess around with a dremel until you need to tidy things up at the end. Be brave with a 4" angle grinder for the most part. I was fortunate in that the indicator socket mod had already been done so it was just a case of cutting and grinding until the lamp unit would fit in the correct position. Most of the obstruction is caused by the removable cover on the rear of the unit and it is possible to only remove enough to allow the lamp unit to fit without the cover. I went the whole hog and made them fit with the covers on. It's two layers of bodywork in the top of the lamp aperture that has to come out and so it's a case of cut a bit, grind a bit until the hole is big enough to allow the lamp unit to seat properly. As Si mentioned the top of the bumper can cause the units to 'catch' as you try to put them in but I found it is possible to flex that down enough to allow the lamp over the lip. The outer locating pegs that fit into the grommets in the front of the wing are easily unscrewed from the headlamp to allow you to seat the lamps properly before you have to think about having to deal with them not being a straight fit into the existing C1 holes. You could, of course, not bother with them at all as once the lamp units are located with the front, inner pegs and secured with their three screws they aren't going to move anyway. ;)

Holy thread resurrection batman.

Andy - just fitted c2 lights for mine and we trimmed some of the bumper.

However, I don't see how the hell we would 'flex' the bumper (still) to make the c2 lights fit flush.

It has me a little confuzzled in so much that i am scared whitless of trimming the bumper even more in order to get a flush fit.

Does anyone have a close up pic of how their c2 lights fit to their c1's....i.e just see what sort of gap you are contending with v what i am?

thanks andy

think i may have some more to do.

The biggest barrier appears to be what can only be best described as a 'clip' on the under side of the light units.

This is the proudest part of the base of the light and causing me the concern as to trim the bumper for this to fit would mean me trimming almost to the bumper edge i think, while i don't think i can safely file away this clip safely? (see very right of this pic)

On the (huge) plus side, driving home last night from work was brilliant.

What prompted me to go for the c2 lights was driving home from Combe - when i swear the only purpose of those lights is to give oncoming traffic an indication there is something in the road coming in the opposite direction - because they hardly aid you as a driver to see where you are going.

HID's are also fitted #nightandday

Are you sure you have the light unit pushed all the way back into the wing? I've noticed that the C2 light does seem to catch better than the C1's. Try slackening the bottom holding screw and then give the unit a firm push back into the wing. Reason for this? Your headlight seems to have a gap at the light unit to wing joint.
