Main Cat Pic

To be honest that link and picture does not look anything like my Cat I have in my garage. I will take a picture of it tomorrow and upload it.

Here you go................

Dan, that looks to me like the one on the left in the photo in post no.5.
It appears as though the one you have has a shorter cat body and a pipe rather than the tapered cat in the post 5 photo.

It does appear to be that one. The one ive got on the car now looks like the one from post 7

Rippin6gears do you know what variant that came off?

The FINIS codes for the cats on V6's changed from 15.05.1999 on, so I'm guessing the two bolt version is the earlier one.

My first Cougar with an engine build date of late May '99 had the 3 bolt version with the flexi.

Edit: looking at the parts diagram for the Mk2 Mondy it shows that all the autos had the 3 bolt with flexi and it was the early manuals that had the two bolt version.

All cougars use the flexi section, early ones are straight cats and later ones have the Z cat to accomodate the lambda, the different Y pipe version with no flexi and a tapered cone is from the mondeo

Edit.......looks like a decat to me......

No they don't.
Early V6 manual has 2 bolt flange cat with no flexi.
All V6 Auto have 3 bolt with flexi.
Late v6 Auto and manual both have 3 bolt with flexi and extra Lambda sensor.

So which ones are straight or curved then?

only ones i've seen with no flexi have been robbed from a mongy

They are all curved. The 3 bolt flexi type has a tighter curve.
The only dead straight type I have seen are the cheapo decat pipes either home made or by some cowboys such as MIJ.

If I get chance i'll post some pics later...I have one of each type and y-pipes in the shed iirc.
