MoFo's week in pics

Well, the first thing that I am going to do when I get back to work on Monday is to book another week off to get all the things sorted that I haven't got done this week - and this time Sue is not getting 75% of the time :dita:.

OK - Thursday - tidy up messy windscreen and clean all windows.

Also repainted my mud flaps. I originally painted them up with Plasti-kote enamel paint which started cracking and coming off. Got a good coating of Hammerite this time - will get them back on tomorrow.

The rest of Thursday and yesterday was the mainly the amp although did get a very good quote to sort the bodywork from The Bolton Mafia's hitman. sorry body shop guy - that will be done in the next couple of weeks prior to the side stripes being fitted (y)

Really felt that I was working against the clock all the time so there aren't many pics from the middle bit of the work - sorry.

Where to start? Decided to cut the speaker wires after the adaptor to keep the original plug on the end in case I ever want to take it all out and reconnect the speakers to a head unit.

Used Jason's nifty hint to apply a 1.5v battery to the wires to identify which wires were for which speakers b y listening for a 'pop'. Felt a bit stupid though when I realised that each wire had it's identity written on it (eg front right +) - DOH.

Block connectors on to each of the 8 speaker wires.

New wiring attached to block connectors. I wrote on the far end of each wire what it was with permanent marker so that when I got to the boot end connecting to the amp would be straight forward.

No way that this lot (3x RCA cables and 4x speaker cables) was going to fit under the plastic trim so just secured them together with cable ties and will get a cable tidy in due course.

Also, during the course of all of this, in a rash moment I decided to upgrade my head unit to this Sony MEX-BT3700U unit. It has front USB - which was essential cos that's what all my stuff is on these days as well as Bluetooth which will be very handy for work. Also has three RCA outs - a mono one for the sub, a front and a rear. I hope that my bank manager is not a member on here cos he doesn't know yet - but he will when things start bouncing at the end of the month :frown2::dita:

Well - got the rear card off OK thanks to the advice in my original ICE install help thread (thanks Shyways) and fed the wiring through to the boot. Problem then was where to put the amp? I already have my sub up against the rear passenger seat and didn't want to lose the drop down on the drivers side rear as I use it too much so....... a bit of industrial strengh velcro and Hey Presto......

Second live from the battery followed the 1st one for the sub down the passanger side. Remote spliced in the boot onto the sub remote using a blade connector, fired her up and..........NOTHING - I was gutted but after a bit of troubleshooting turned out to be the blade connector on the remotes so banged on another and... WOW.

Not had time to fiddle with the gains etc but was out last night and I honestly thought that the boot lid was going to blow off :yikes: - could see the spoiler moving about an inch up and down when I got the Vultures on :ihih:.

The Juice speakers (supplied by Racebits (y)) have now come into a league of their own. It's hard to describe. I know that it is much louder but it doesn't seem louder because it is so much clearer with no top end distortion - in other words its FANTASTIC (y)

:D

Well done matey good job.

2 tips, one dont keep the amp on top of the bass box as the vibrations can damage it and two the cables running down the car, if you pull the plastic trim up and remove the plastic lugs securing the carpet you can run them under the carpet, loads of room under there ;)

Cheers for that Chris - I'll have a look at that tomorrow. Any ideas where to put the amp without putting it on the back of the drivers side passanger seat?

:D

Looking great Iain, those new door sills look fantastic mate & great job on the mudflaps too. (y)

I can't wait to see your coog rapping down at MIJ..........Xzibit, eat your heart out!:)

Why not mount it to the back of the Passenger side seat? Both my amps are mounted to the backs of the seats and I still use the split now and again (just cover the amps with a thick sheet so they dont get scratched...obviously not when running or they would over heat) only other option is to get a peice of MDF cut to shape and mount the amp on the boot floor.
Chris is right there is loads of room under the sill plates for cables, Idealy your power leads should be on the Passenger side, Phono down the middle and speaker on drivers side, but thats an ideal world :) If the speaker wires for my system can be hidden mate you have no problem.
