Mondeo 4x4 Power Limit

It's one of those things that European (or perhaps just UK) owners can do fairly cost effectively because the donor car can be bought for less than some people spend on a weekend drinking session. Whether you flew over to break the donor car or had someone else do it for you, you're really looking at a decent sized crate, several pallets or perhaps even a small container to move the parts back to New Jersey. Given the exchange rate, logistical issues etc, I reckon you could get far more car for your money doing something else in the USA. Unless you really, really, really want a Cougar of course...

Of course there are always more logical alternatives, but what's the fun in that? I like this car and there aren't many else that really appeal to me. Because of that I want to stick with it, but its rather low displacement engines and FWD layout just seems a handicap. The 4x4 layout mated to a 3L block would take the car to a higher level.

One thought occurs to me as to how this could be done a bit cheaper. A relative of mine regularly deploys to the Air Force base in Spangdahlem, Germany. As it's technically US soil I can ship from there to Jersey at domestic rates. Now it would still cost a pretty penny to acquire the parts, either separately or breaking, then transport them to Germany and ultimately ship them, but I imagine would end up being cheaper than shipping from the UK?

I have contacts in euro haulage I can't see a pallet being any more than £150

Is that shipping to the EU or across the pond?

Any chance the USAF would let him move the whole car?

I'm not sure if they'd ship the whole car, but if they would it would be useful. It'd also be somewhat neat as it'd be the only Mondeo stateside.

Just ask your relative if he has any mates who are deployed in the UK

I don't think he knows anyone in the UK unfortunately.

Sorry to bring up an aging thread, but if since most eBay sellers don't want to ship over the pond, would I be able to pay anyone here to pick up/take delivery of parts and then ship them here? I'm not sure how much this would cost, but just want to see if it's even an option.

....or try and find a 4x4 from Germany. They were available all over Europe, not just the UK. It'll be LHD spec too. (y)

German LHD 4x4 on ebay. Can your relative have a look at this one and ship it?

As posted above, a lot cheaper via a USAF base as it's classed as US soil therefore domestic shipping rates. You guys need to read the previous posts in this thread.

I did Manos but given the weight of these even at domestic costs it won't be cheap I imagine!.

He's currently stateside. =(

Was there an consensus as to whether or not the 4x4 system could be mated to the 3.0L block? There was some debate about whether it would conflict with an oil passage or two.
