Mondeo 4x4 Power Limit

Best bet would be to ship in a container
That's what I thought, especially as the US forces ship so many of their cars over here while serving at UK bases.
Plus you'll have the piece of mind that all the 4x4 components will be safe and complete even if the car gets dented during shipping.
With it being LHD, I'm sure the Euro only trim will get some healthy interest from Contour owners wanting to make their cars a bit different.

How much would shipping the whole car cost then? Probably about as much as I'd pay for the car.
Ask your relative in the USAF. He should be able to find out.
We have several USAF bases in this part of the country and quite often see USA cars being driven by servicemen. So it must be cost effective for them to ship their cars here and back. I can't see it being any different in Germany.

Is the interior to the same spec as the contour? The mondy seemed smaller on the inside.
There are differences between the Contour and Mondeo interior/exterior panels and trim but basically it's the same chassis and same size car. There should be a lot of stuff that's interchangeable but different. Apart from the hatchback tailgate, all glass panels are the same.

If you register on TalkFord you can download the brochures. The 1993 and 1996 brochures cover the Mk1 (4x4 was only available during Mk1 production).
EDIT: 1996 brochure is the most detailed and covers the 4x4 too.

I suppose if you really wanted to you could reroute the oil way. I haven't seen it myself so I don't know what exactly the issue is and therefore feasible fixes.

Another option might be to measure up how the front half shafts and prop shaft flange locations compare between the Mondeo 4x4 transfer box and the X-Type transfer box. That would really need someone with both though. I don't think I'd invest that money/effort myself. If I had the parts lying around that might be different.

Yeah. The whole concept of this project is pretty outlandish since getting the parts stateside is a near impossibility; what's one more hurdle? lol If I ever go ahead with this it seems best to get creative and solve the oil passage issue to mate it to the 3.0 or just go with F/I on a standard Zetec so I don't have to mod as much. Anyone know many 4x4's were made and how many are left on the road?

I guess there's enough now that in a few years when I hopefully have a bit more money there will be some left. In mainland Europe the mondy was most popular in Germany right?

The Mk1 Mondeo was very popular here, I don't remember seeing that many Fords when I was last in Germany (Hamburg 2005). I think they prefer their home grown marques - VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes etc. Saw loads of them and nearly every taxi was an E Class Merc.

Most nations do prefer their own brands. It's a quintisentially "British" thing whereby all the population feel morally obliged to denigrate everything we've ever made, regardless how it compared to the competition at the time.

Then everyone moans that all our companies go bust and there are no jobs for non-professionals any more, and no goods to export.

There was a program about this the other day saying some thing on the lines of in the 20's we exported 70 or 80% but now we import more than that

I know that the Mondeo and Focus are rather popular in the UK, what I meant was are there any countries in the mainland that like Ford or the Mondeo was/is popular with? The only EU country I've really seen Fords or heard of them being somewhat successful in is Germany.

Not that I'm aware of. I think the UK is the only European country where Ford is always in the top 5 for sales. Germany is definitely not a country where fords are the most popular. As I said before, there are 4 big brands that have the distinct advantage of being German.
