MOT surprise!

Thanks. After removing the ns rear disk, it was found to be in a fair condition but rusty on the inner face. Obviously the caliper on that side wasn't working. The auto adjuster was solid so hadn't been taking up on the pad wear. After threatening it with migration to the bin, i managed to work it free and it's all moving nicely now. Although the rear disks are both slightly rusty, they do clean up ok, but for the mot i decided to use the spares i had in the cave along with a set of new pads. I also replaced the front disks although they were only advisories. While i was doing the cv boot clip, i noticed just how bad the inner face of the os disk was, so i decided to swap them as well. Nice new/old disks fitted all round now, with pads and cv boot secure.
Some piccies of what i removed from the car.

The offending rear disk alongside it's replacement.

...and the really bad stuff:

Fooled by the outer faces:

This is what was hiding and tbh, i don't understand how i managed to miss this during the conversion. The pads appear to have filled in the grooves as they have worn.

Congrats on the pass Al,

looking at those discs it does make you wonder the validity of using grooved ones, what ever their benefit in stoping power over drilled or solid ones, they do seem to have worn quite badly, did you have very hard compound pads fitted or something, I've used drilled/grooved (black diamond) on previous cars and not had that kind of wear, bit puzzled by the way yours look !!!

These disks have been on the car for about four years, well, not on this car but mainly on S97. See HERE. I always use mintex pads which are a softer compound. Since the grooves are full up rather than worn away, i'm guessing the soft compound is probably not so well suited to this type of disk. I might go back on Ferodo's for the next set for comparison. The disks i have replaced them with i think are Black Diamonds although i'm not certain as i bought them used.

yeah i think your right with the soft pads being the issue, if they are black diamond discs your using you could try the black diamond pads, had these (discs and pads) on a car, few years ago they were awesome, no cold temp warm up times to worry you first thing in the morning !!! or perhaps some EBC red i think is the harder ones the green stuff i think maybe be a little too soft still, i use EBC green stuff on my bike with drilled disks and they are very good, probably not "THAT" relevent to car pads but i'm guessing sintered metal pads are sintered metal pads to some extent, unless someone can offer any further enlightenment on that ;)
